Samsung's NX announcement is nothing but FUD

It's their OWN standard, not anyone elses.

Oh btw, you don't get u4/3rds technical details either, only
Panasonic and Olympus share that. If you want in, you have to
"demonstrate you are willing to make a substantial commitment to the
u4/3rds standard" - words of Panasonic/Olympus. So far it's only them.
I have to agree with the OP and I think you are completely missing the point. Panasonic initially announced m43 and Samsung put a press release very soon afterwards that said, we will do this too...just wait until 2010. They had nothing to announce, but they thought that it would keep people from buying the G1. This is exactly what FUD is....make an announcement to muddy the water even if you have little substance.

Now, it is 6 month later and PMA comes around. Panasonic has the video version of the G1 and has 2 new lenses available. I think they have done a super job developing these things so quickly. Samsung comes around and tells you that their micro-APSC is getting closer to production. You see some pictures, but nothing substantive. This is again a case where it seems that their only purpose is is to spread FUD.

Now I am not saying that they are not allowed to do this, but it is FUD and there can be little argument that it is.

I really don't understand why the people attacking my OP can't see something so blindingly obvious.

i think the derision here has gone way over the top

this much must by now be obvious

Samsung had intel that Panasonic were going to release the HD version, and inserted a spoiler that 'beat them too it'.

FUD is IMO going too far, but it is nonetheless a signal to the market that Samsung are still in it, and that they are willing to be a tad disruptive to their competition.

I think this is becoming a discussion about the definition of FUD now. FUD generally means that you make a press release with little to show just to take the spotlight away from other (more substantive) developments. For example, this has been going on in the software industry for years where Microsoft tells you that the next version of Windows will incorporate xxx if xxx is something that has been released in a competitors product and that was widely praised. In those cases you do not know if that feature is already under development or if it is simply something that got announced to prevent people from buying the available (competing) product.

I fail to see how this announcement is much different from this described scenario.

Anyway, I think it matters little here. Panasonic seems on a roll with their developments and I doubt anything that Samsung will release in the future will make a big difference. I think the bigger question will be if the prices that Panasonic charges for their product will be accepted by the market.

This is a Samsung idea, they don't have to be compatible with anyone else.

As for u4/3rds none of the true internal details are open to the public.

Is that FUD also? Seems like it has as many details revealed as Samsung's. Hey, Samsung even revealed the buttons of the camera, how about that.

Sorry, I am seeing a double standard here. Now, if Samsung does not deliver this year, that's another story.

If Panasonic can turn out at best average glass for M43, after working with Leica on the 4/3 glass, then I don't see Samsung learning this difficult art on their own.
