Two from my LX3

The LX3 is a niche camera for me. It's main use will be for bicycling, and it will also see some secondary use as a street shooter/interior shooter, or anytime something smaller than an slr is desired. Unfortunately I haven't yet had a chance to use it in these situations, so instead I'm carrying it along with my slr and I take a few snaps with it when I get a chance just to get to know it better.

Here are a couple taken in the last few days. Both shots were taken looking west down the Columbia River Gorge. For some perspective, the pointed rock formation near the middle of the first shot is also visible in the second shot mid/left.

Thanks for looking.

The first, color photo is superb! Captures OR/WA and the Gorge perfectly. Well done.

That particular location at the end of the day can be hard to shoot without blocking out the shadows. I don't mind, but oftentimes folks object to the expanse of darkness.

Thanks again for your comments.

But it would be nicer I think were there a bit more strength
in the rail lines (more brightness/exposure), and were the
dark areas given some texture by a lightening that in
Nikon terms is called "D-Lighting"--or, I THINK that such
changes would enhance an already beautiful serene
sceen. --just enough to give a bit of texture, but still
leaving the large areas subdued/dark. Beautiful blue.

Nice that you were in this "niche", eh!? (-;

I appreciate your comments.

And drofnad, I'll have a look at recovering a bit of the shadows. I shoot from this spot quite often, and the area in question has some details that can sometimes be distracting. The railroad tracks usually add something, and while I had a look at recovering something there before I posted the shot, I'll have another look

Thanks again.

The shadows are really blocked up with the sun angle, but I was able to expose the tracks a little better. I added some dodging to the water as well while I was at it. While this one still has issues with the dark area, I think it's better than the first version.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Hi Terry,

Never mind about answering the question I asked in the "other" forum ;D
as I believe the two(2) images in your initial post ...kind of answer my
question ....at least, quality wise :) Both are great shots but the first
is a real cracker ... well captured :D

Cheers,

Jack

Thanks for the pics, always interesting to see what that camera is capable of in the right hands. I'm still looking for a smaller alternative to my D700, and this is one of the contenders (together with the G10).

Thanks. I'm enjoying the camera so far.

I'm not sure why I didn't spend a little more time on this image initially, but I had another look after someone suggested I do so. Here is the result. A little nicer yet I hope:

My goal was similar. Something to compliment my SLR, with the primary use as a bicycling camera. I didn't spend much time considering the G10 so I can't really give a good reason why I didn't go that direction. I owned a G2 that eventually made it's way into someone else's hands without my permission. That was a real bummer. We've also had a few other Canon's in the house. I guess I just wanted to try another direction.

So far so good.
