Kinda confused about the S2 Pro and wether or not the highest setting is 'real' data?

Is the highest setting actual captured data or is it 'interpollated' in-camera?

If so, is this basically the same as taking a shot with say the D100 at it's highest setting and then doubling the size in Photoshop?

This has been discussed numerous times on this forum.

The deal is:

There is a 6mp sensor, but because of the arrangement of the light-sensing elements of the SuperCCD it is necessary to use a 12MP arrangement to record the full information from the sensor. The 12MP data from the S2 provides more detail than simply using Photoshop's interpolation, but it is true that the sensor itself does not provide a native 12MP file.

If you take a look at the samples (especially resolution charts) available you'll see that 12MP files from the S2 resolve more detail than 6mp from the D100

Check through old threads for more information.

Sure thing :)

Sorry about that, I didn't mean to be criticizing you as much as letting you know that there were probbaly better answers than mine available if you looked carefully for them.

Good luck with your camera choice - I love my S2
