these canon cameras are getting ugglier day by day. Instead of having a classy design like the old elphs (i.e. SD600), they've got little blue colored cameras (D10) that look like a deformed toy that a toddler would use, crappy F3.2-5.8 9 (SD780IS), a shape that looks like a PDA from the year 2000 (SD960/970), and then the rest.

Why do you care what your camera looks like? I personally only care what if feels like ergonomically and how it performs.

The reason the D10 looks like that is probably so that it can be handled with gloves and so on since it can be used under water, in snow, you name it. If you're looking for a pretty camera, there's always the G10...

Canon is just trying to maintain a "contemporary" face to the looks of their everyday digicams - and that's not a bad thing. Of course, the key here is if the IQ will hold up. I am particularly interested in the new waterproof D10. I've had a series of Olympus waterproof/shockproof models (their Stylus) line and they were built like a tank - but unfortunately, the IQ was horrible, especially on the sides - something Olympus hasn't learned to overcome (and I'm an avid Olympus user).

So if the Canon digicams being released can keep up the great IQ for the genre, that's what will determine the final outcome. I'm personally planning on getting this new D10.

As always, make it a great day!

Good point.
Ok the SD960 looks a bit like a bar of soap and the D10 is odd (but atleast the buttons are big, and there is NO folded optics, and it included IS...)

But there is nothing wrong with the looks of the others. Especially compared to a lot of other camera out there. Personally I like the looks of the SX200IS, the other SD series and A series. But that's just my opinion.
In fact, Fuji is going down this same road. What gives?
At least the F series looks good and feels good in your hands. Their other models' (J and Z series) big problem has nothing to do with looks.

I read in a mens gaget mag just this and was shocked .

"The Canon G9 was a reall ugly m f " " But new G10 were looking at here is an even uglier m f son of a *****" exuse my blushes.

Canons top point and shoot ugly, well NOT pretty would be my point of view. ??..

I think the G10 looks nice enough BUT it has the same size sensor as many smaller cameras which leads me to believe it is too big for what you are getting. Everytime I pick one up I keep think how great it could be with a larger sensor.

Regarding the bigger (SD7xx/SD8xx/SD9xx) models I agree. The smaller ones however actually improved over the last years - in my opinion the Ixus 85/SD770 has the cleanest yet most refined design ever found in the whole series. Unfortunately the latest small models are a step in the wrong direction with their slippery-as-soup appearance and some rather garish colors.
