I have been into photography for 25 years and it has been strictly 35 mm. I really enjoy computers and look forward to getitng my first digital camera. I am really tossed between the Dimage 7i and the 707. Has anyone else been plagued by this issue. They both feel great in my hands. Thanks for your input. Dan

Both are great.

More realistic color on the D7i
Best lens range with D7i (28mm-200mm)
Least distortion of lens on D7i
Far less CA on D7i

Best options and tweakings for photographer like zoom ring and other options like saturation, contrast settings (D7i)
No memory stick

Better noise on 707
Great nightmode shots on 707
Slightly sharper images? (from what I've seen) 707
Better dynamic range (from what I've seen) 707
Fantastic battery life 707
Super bright lens F2/2.4 on 707

A quick summary from what I've found. I think I give the edge to the 707 for detail and dynamic range, but not for options. I've seen more blown highlights and black shadows on the D7i (although not as bad as the 5700), but there are just more options for the photographer with the D7i. Both are great cameras.

Dan,

Lots of people have been plagued by this issue. IMO, the 7i, the 5700 and the 707 are at the top of the heap (at least in the pro-sumer category).

Each has it's strengths and weaknesses. Which one is the best for you? The one whose feature set and strengths best match you and the way you shoot. Since we don't know the answers to these questions, it's up to you. I really don't think you'll be un-happy with either.

FWIW,I was considering the D7 before purchasing my 707. The D7i has some of the problems, that soured me on the 7, corrected.

BTW if you haven't read the mini review/editorial Mike Johnston wrote on the 707, you may want to check it out.

Thanks Mike K http://www.luminous-landscape.com/columns/sm-07-29.shtml

Good luck with your decision,
Steve

These sort of comparisons have been heavily canvassed in stf in recent months. I'm sure you'd find it rewarding to make a few searches looking for messages relating to the Dimage line. there's lots of good stuff out there
good luck with your purchase

I haven't looked at the Dimage 7i, but have had mt 707 for 3 months and it is great

Truthfully, the D7i is more film-SLR-like than the F707, so it might be a good starter camera.

If you don't mind something a little unconventional in looks and ergonomics, coupled with superb images/optics and a decent zoom, the F707 is for you.
