Has anyone had experience with the Kinesis belt system for carrying gear?I posted this question months ago, but I now am more familiar with the gear, and will order next week. If you do use the system, do you use it with other bags?

Hi Don,

I've been using the Kinesis stuff for over a year, and love it. I like the modular approach, where I can take as much or as little as I want with me, how the weight is distributed, and I can access my equipment easily.

I have a basic medium belt, the padded harness, and a 3-lens pouch, a C500, C570, a separate lens pouch for the 100-400 or 70-200, and a tripod bag which can attach to the harness. I have a separate backpack for the Canon 600L/f4 IS.

I store my stuff in a Domke bag, and load up what I want into the appropriate Kinesis equipment when I'm out shooting. Sometimes I might only use the belt with the 3-lens pouch and C500, and it's quite light-weight.

I used the full system in my trip out West, when I did a fair amount of hiking and climbing, and was very satisfied with how it all worked.

If you have any specific questions, let me know.

Don

I have a bunch of pics of my Kinesis gear on my pic-sharing site (below).

I've recently replaced my Accessory Pouch on my right hip with Kinesis's new multilens pouch; I now can carry my Kaidan KiWi-L head and a couple more lenses.

I really like this concept and execution. Unlike Don Cohen, I carry everything in my Kinesis system (IOW, I have no other bags or backpacks, etc.), and one of the things I like about it is that it helps me NOT become a gadget freak that we fotografers love to turn into. If I can't carry it, I can't use it, and if I can't use it, why own it?

Tell Richard Jeffrey sent you, and No, I get no commissions or freebies from Richard Stum...I just buy, use, and love his stuff.

Hi Don, I've been using a Kinesis system for several months now, including on a trip to Bhutan. It is the best system I've ever used for carrying camera gear. Only downside is that it looks slightly dorky, (okay, a lot dorky) but who cares? Because it is modular, you carry what you anticipate you'll need, and leave the rest behind. It doesn't bounce around when you're walking or hiking, and everything is accessible immediately, no need to take a backpack off or set a large bag down to access your gear. I have a holster type case that carries my EOS-3 body with attached 28-135 IS, a long lens case for a 75-300 IS, and a small accessory case which will accomodate my P&S Powershot 300 + CFs and an extra battery. My husband also has a belt which will carry the 10 x30 IS binoculars (We're good Canon customers!). We can carry all this stuff in a Kinesis duffle-type bag which is of a size that will qualify as an airline carryon.
