Wow - so they're putting the D3 up by over £1000 - that certainly pushes up the resale value significantly.

Raising the price of any product by almost a third of its price is simply an insult to the consumer! It seems that greed has surfaced once too often in this industry; reducing profit margins instead of hiking-up prices and making people redundant isn't the end of the world! (I'm speaking of Nikon here, not so much Grey's)

They've sold a lot these couple of months before the announced price raise, now is time for them to suffer poor sales. When they stop selling they might revise their prices.

I bought almost all that I wanted, except for the 14-24mm that is out of stock everywhere. Nikon won't see the colour of my money for quite awhile.

This seems to be totally to do with the Yens value. I wonder how long the Yen will stay this high though - the lead article on BBC world news this morning was saying the Japanese economy was in significantly worse shape than either Europe or the US...

Just don't get spooked, they need your money more than you need their cameras and lenses, the prices will fall again, pretty quickly I reckon.

For years and years Brits have been ripped off over pricing...how often have we seen items at $500 been charged at £500, when the exchange rate has been $1.90 to £.

The UK has long been known as "treasure island" due to the high prices many multinational companies inflict on us.

Dig your heels in, wait them out....let them use some of their profits from previous years of greed to help them through the recession.

I phoned Gray's this morning to check this - and they said that many prices had just gone up yet again this morning already and - yes - bigger price rises are to come in March. This is a reflection of Nikon UK price increases.

I think the combination of the very weak pound (it dropped in value very sharply 2nd half of last year) versus the strong yen is causing this situation.

Here's hoping that the situation will ease in the not too distant future (like sometime later this year maybe).

well its no good in the Bank is it!!......until Nikon prices come down again.

I ordered a Tokina 100 macro from Park Cameras in January but it was out of stock so when it came in last week the price had increased by £90 so I cancelled the order.
Happy with my D700, 24-70 and 85 lenses.

As a Japanese manufacturer how would you cope with this ??

Take a look at my album . . . http://www.F1Album.com

Yep seen that I'm trying to get courage to spend one more lens purchase before the d-day 1/3/09 be a real while (if any) we see prices come down to sensible levels on both Nikon, Canon, Sony Sides. Thanks Gordon Brown and Darling the Mr Bens of Money Markets...

Japan is sinking much deeper into recession than previously thought, consumer goods export is bad and I don't know how a price rise could do them any good.

I am not buying any new gear for quite a while, the last Japanese gear I bought last year and recently are the Nikon 24-70 and a Toshiba DPL projector, so if people don't buy, price will have to go down, just wait and see. Japanese economy is already worse than previously thought, price rise across the board will sink them even deeper. They are not getting my money.

I am inclined to agree. It appears that photo retailers are not doing so good. Many are thinking twice before spending their hard earned money and seeking a bargain to make their cash go further. Big price rises are the last straw
