"D40x with attached 70-300 VR inside a Lowepro Slingshot 200AW?"

I want to order this bag from Amazon because my Slingshot 100AW wont accommodate the lens on the camera. Anyone have a similar setup and know if this will work?

I have this bag and I am able to store my D90 with the 70-300VR attached. I did have to move the one vertical divider to allow a longer lens to fit but other than that it is no problem.

The pic at this link shows the camera with a shorter lens up against the movable partition that runs down the center of the bag. I moved that partition.

I was just going to say this. I have the bag and a 55-200, and that leaves enough room in front of the lens to store a couple filters, so if you have the 70-300 you will definitely have to remove the vertical divider in the middle.

Thank you for the info, and if I upgraded from the D40x the D90 would be my choice, so this bag should work fine. I pulled that divider out of the 100AW, but there was no way the camera with the lens on it was going to fit.

I also have the same bag...with that divider removed, the D90 with the 300 lens just fits

I made a similar move from the Slingshot 100AW to 200AW and both are nice bags, but I'm now using the Tamrac Velocity 8x with my D90 & grip. I grew a bit annoyed with the way the Slingshots open/accessing lenses or my flash, and found the 200AW a bit large for what I wanted.

I may be a picky ole bugger when It comes to gear...But one down fall I see on this 200 bag Is...When you open It...It seems like something Is going to fall out.
It opens from the side
Maybe It will take some time to get use to

I completely changed the layout of the slingshot 200 so that I could access everything by openning just the side (or top in sling position). It fits my D80 with 70-300Vr or the 18-70 with the lens hood. The lens that isn't on the camera is in a compartment right beside the D80 which makes lens changing a breeze. My sb-600 is right beside the lens thats not in use and I still have space on the other side of the camera.

Can you post a shot of this arrangement, please?

And can you change lenses while still wearing the slingshot? I have the 100AW and find I need to sit down somewhere because I'm afraid the lenses will fall out if I open the flap far enough to access them.

TIA

That is exactly the arrangement I have, the Slingshot A200 with D40 and 70-300 attatched. It fits perfectly. As you sling the bag to your front when you open it nothing can fall out as it isn't on one side. I sometimes even walk with the bag slung forward and the camera inside with the strap round my neck. I take it out to take the shot at drop it back in to protect it.

It depends on how you arrange the dividers, but I have a D40 and 70-300 attached in the 100AW bag! I also have the the rest of my kit in there and it fits fine.

That said, I don't have that much more room, and I doubt I could do the same thing with a D90.

As has been said, a 200AW will be plenty big enough.

Unless you have that in there at a diagonal, I dont know how you fit it!

Not diagonal. Camera and lens run length ways with the long dimension of the bag. When carrying the bag, the body would be at the bottom with lens pointing toward the sky. Camera is taken out of the bag by grabbing the base of the lens where you would normally grab the camera body.

Well I ordered the Slingshot 200AW from Amazon earlier today, and I am selling my Slingshot 100AW to my brother. It will be nice to be able to store the camera with the 70-300VR on it in the bag. I was able to fit all my gear, but I would have had to store the 70-300VR not on the camera to make everything work. The bag was pretty packed, so the 200AW is a logical step up.

This all fit, but like I said, the 70-300VR would have to go in the long slot.

... I used the 200 slingshot for some time then sold it to my son in law.
Bought a 300 sling shot which is OK but I wish I would have kept the 200
for short shooting days...Both are good bags but I really miss the 200....;-)

Here are pictures of my slingshot with the D80 with the 70-300VR attached. This is a really easy setup to change lenses without taking off the slingshot and putting it on the ground.
