Fellow G2 fans/owners,

I'm currently involved in a threat over at the Nikon Forum about G2 vs CP5700 (entitled 'Given up on Phil') and want to show someone what the G2 can achieve (I've just bought my second one)...

Can someone remeber a G2 gallery by someone (I think first name was Andreas and Anders) of Scandinavian origin - or another impressive gallery?

thanx
alexis

Did you mean Pekka? (Many apologies if I butchered the name). There's also Kleptography.com that has some beautiful images.

Disputes about Who is better - Nikon or Canon will last forever. For fans camera does not mean anything, the brand does :)

However good the CP5700 or the next CP and the one after, I have a REAL problem parting with my hard-earned cash for something that says Nikon on it - Call me "Canon faithful" I guess I must be - best wait for Pro90 replacement and get out and use my G2 more in the meantime instead of spending so much time in the this forum!!

Thanx for the comments and thanx to everyone for the links - arent some of the images absolutely AWESOME??

Question for those who posted links to the galleries: are the pictures straight from camera or Photoshopped? ;)

Pretty sure they've been "photoshopped", cropped, resampled, may have been staged, shot with artificial light, filters, adapters, etc. By the same token, great photographers generally display their prints, not their negatives, and they all employ the same range of tricks and techniques. I think that the kleptography gallery link that I posted displays some stunning work. Great shots require the eye/experience/knowledge of the photographer in conjunction with the appropriate tools. These galleries demonstrate that the G2 can be a powerful tool in the hands of the skilled photographer.

cheers.

I own a G2 but I do have a Nikon 35mm SLR.....and Nikon Glass that's why I'm mixed between buying a Nikon D100 or a D60. I have several lenses and would have to sell and rebuy!!! ugh....In the SLR world, you kind of get stuck in the brand loyalty because of the lenses

the best work seen on this forum are usually shot in RAW. With RAW there is nothing "straight out of the camera". the RAW is converted to TIFF or JPEG in a computer where the white balance, sharpness, contrast and saturation can be adjusted at high bit depth. The more advanced practitioners may use 16 bit linear conversions which require some degree of additional color adjustments. I think that notion of straight out of the camera is relevant only for P&S shooters who typically do not bother (or know much about) photoshop adjustments. Canon RAW is a feature which is very attractive to hobbyists who prefer to have that extra bit of control over their image data processing.

While I understand the desire to compare camera output directly, it is more the skill of the photographer you are viewing in various galleries, not the pure capability of the camera. Read Phil's reviews more carefully and study his laboratory style tests.

It seems that this post has started a small war over on the Nikon forum so I have decided to bail out and return to the tranquility of the Canon forum. I have learned nothing I didn't know about the Coolpix 5700 ( that I was consideringto buy vs the G2) but I have learned a whole lot about Nikon owners!..

Regardless, thanx for the URLs etc. What a FANTASTIC set of sharp photos for all to salivate over. thanx again

Canon G2, Canon EOS RT
and Nikon 5700 brochure!
I was hoping you meant me (Scandinavia and Anders - both fits) but
I'm pretty sure you talking about this guy.

He took some really great pics.

Anders

We are discussing G2 and 5700. I agree that for SLR this is the case.
