I started to looking into purchasing a studio lighting kit. This weekend during my field trip to the local camera store, I stumbled upon a brand I never heard about before Lightrein. Talking with the sale guy he said they were comparable to Bowens. The price is good and the quality of the kit seamed good also.

This is what I was looking at:

Has anyone heard of these? or does anyone use these?

Thanks.

You won't regret buying into them. They are rebranded Rime lite (Hyundae Korea), top quality and performance. http://www.rimelite.com/en/
As the clerk stated, their accessory mounts are compatible with Bowens.

Alien Bees are better and made in Nashville TN.
Alien Bees are more bang for the buck (they also take Balcar reflectors).
Better repair better support.

I have 3 WhiteLightning units (same Alien Bee company) from 1991 and they work perfectly.

It doesn't prove anything regarding the quality of Alien Bees vs Lightrein.Just a bunch of PCB fanboys cheering around!

I know what i'm talking about,i use White Lightning strobes since 1999,this is 10 years of professional use. They where just ok with film but they are too much inconsistent (both exposure and colour) for a flawless use with digital.I will sell them on Eebay.

So,saying that Alien Bees is better than Lightrein is simply pure ignorance.

There are more than a few examples posted in the galleries, and throughout various posts there. Not just the fan chatter.

Though I suppose if you've been using WLs for 10 years, you've got all the examples you need.
However, I find your comments interesting.

I haven't had the opportunity to use them (yet) but I've been doing some research, and I've found nothing that even appears to approach the quality of the ABs anywhere in the realm of the same pricepoint, not to mention the availability of customer service for what would otherwise be considered a "discount" line product.

I haven't looked into the WLs nearly as much, however.

Could you post anything that you see, spec wise, to compare and contrast the lightrein vs AB equavalent lights?
Or are we talking about Zen and feel?

"but they are too much inconsistent (both exposure and colour) "

Operator error.

yes, if you shoot Sooo fast that the unit(s) are not recycled...this will show as
inconsistent exposure. Operator error. This is true with any brand.

inconsistent color ? Digital color (WB with a certified Gray card etc)
is FAR more accurate than film EVER was....Variations in E6 processing are/were
much much wider than any strobe system.
Operator error.

Wait until one of those Korean strobes breaks...who will fix it ?

I have used WhiteLightning since 1991, along with Profoto stuff (5 packs, 14 heads).

What is true: the tools are more consistent than the human element.

You're a loud mouth, aren't you??Everybody sucks but you, lol!I hope PCB pays you a good amount for the fanboyism!!!

Anyway, about the so-called "user error" mister,i also use my Bowens lighting gear and i have no such issues with it.Since,it's the same photographer with the same shooting style, the variables come from the WL lights.Period.All the gray cards in the world won't change that.

Oh!About those Korean strobes.Well,if the OP want a new flashtube,he just have to buy it at the very same store where he bought the strobes, much easier than dealing with the customs and all.
