Hi Everyone,

Out of the 2 Canon Cameras, which one would be a good investment to shoot Weddings, Fashion and sports with 2.8L series lenses. Would appreciate your expertise. Thanks in advance.

Both are a poor investment - you will loose money for sure. No offense, but you are being a bit lazy in your research. Spend some time reading reviews of each, and your answer should obvious.

. . . at the amateur or professional level?

For amateur, it doesn't matter -- they're both ok.

For professional, the 5DMkII is a good choice for weddings, ok for fashion, not so much for sports.

The 50D would be ok but not optimal, for any of the genres you mention.

Best,
Paul

Seems nobody buys the cameras in good old Camera Stores anymore - it has to be allways the cheapest in Internet.

If you would buy in a good old store - those friendly salespersons may give you both for testing for, a while, like mine does.

The 5D is better in image quality - thats clear and for wedding even more clear - 50D is the more modern concept.

Rarafu,
Did you mean to say 5D Mark II has better picture quality than the 5D?

Unless you are shooting sports and need fps choose the 5dII.

You can achieve images that compare to an $8,000 body.

I shoot weddings with a 5d II and 2 40d's. I will pick up another 5d II this year as I use two bodies and a second shooter. I like to have my 70-200 on a 40d and my 24/70 or 24/105 on my 5dII. I did not own the original 5d but kept waiting for the new model. I should not have. The images I get from the 5dII need just minor ajustments in raw. This saves so much time in post. and for me a less than perfect shooter I can crop the hell out of a shot and it still looks like I meant to do that. (I know that no one else ever has to crop an image on this forum.) Print size may not matter but cropping can sell images.

I no longer like the lack of detail in my 40d shots even though they are adequate.

I now want to work with 2 5d II's. This body will pay for itself and another one too. The images you achieve will stir you to do even better. If you can't get your money back out of this camera ... give it up.

Go with the mark II for Weddings. I bought a 50d and wasn't impressed with the quality of the pictures, (plus had several stuck pixels). I had a 20d as well and as far as I'm concerned the image quality is better on the 20d than the 50d. I sent the 50d back. Got a 5d Mark II, way way better than the 50D. Much cleaner & the quality of the files is amazing.
