Nikon to raise lens prices

I was planning on buying the Nikon 50mm f1.8 on B&H last week and didn't now the price has jumped about 10$ give or take, its not much of an increase, but there was a slight increase.

B&H - 105mm VR Macro jst gone up from about $760 to $890!! Was considering it over the cheaper Tokina at $400 - decision is now easy - no way the Nikkor is worth more than twice the price!

I bought my 17 55 2.8 for £772 a week last Friday and the same dealer is adverising it now for £889.99!

I just looked on B and H Photo for some filters for that lens I own and I was like wow happy I got all then lens I need for now. The prices will go back down some time in the next few years.

I can highly recommend Canoga Camera. http://www.canogacamera.com/default.aspx

Smaller than B&H and Adoroma, but very, very reputable (lifetime rating of 9.84 on http://www.resellerratings.com/store/Canoga_Camera ).

I found the 50mm 1.4D there for $290 (US version, including shipping). They have the 50mm 1.8D for the old price of $109.94. http://www.canogacamera.com/SearchResult.aspx?KeyWords=nikkor%2050mm%201.8D&All=True

Their price on the 200-400 is still $4949.94. http://www.canogacamera.com/SearchResult.aspx?KeyWords=nikkor%20200-400&All=True

No, I don't work there, and I don't know anyone who does.

The price on the Nikon 200-400 may be lower to start with, but by the time you add in shipping, it is nearly the same price as B&H (who includes shipping on that lens). For the few dollars difference, I think I would rather deal with B&H and have that added sense of security. (and besides I need to support Jewish merchants who honor the Sabbath)

I guess the bottom line is, "Shop around," as not all merchants sell the same thing for the same price. On the 50mm 1.4, a $50 difference (about 15%) in favor of Canoga was enough to pull the trigger.

Was $919 last time I checked.

Canadian Nikon lens prices have gone up this week. I purchased a
24-70 last week from The Camera Store in Calgary for $1800 Cdn, which
is still the price listed on their web site. Today I notice that
three other retailers are now selling it for $2000.
A day later (Feb 3) the 24-70 at The Camera Store is now 5% more ($1889).

I was going to get this lens. But... they have been "out of stock" for over a month. Now it's listed as "Back-ordered". USA price was 759.95 - now its 889.95.

I've experienced good service with B&H - no real complaints - until the past 3-4 months...

FYI... Regarding some feedback that I gave B&H last night about being so very slow at getting certain Nikon products in back stock...

B&H reply: "The honest answer is Nikon is very slow getting things out to us., whether it is a mfr slow down or a exporting slow down, it is all issues with the slow way that Nikon does business and there is nothing we can do about it."

Well Nikon, that may be one way to boost sales of 3rd party lenses.
