What the frack is up with 5D MKII battery availability?

I hav had no issue finding a couple localy (San Diego) for US$100. That seems a bit pricey but whatever.

Adorama $89.95 -- has stock according to their website

Thanks to someone who posted a message in this very forum about three weeks ago, I called Paul's Photo in Torrance, Calif., a store I had never heard of (I live on the east cost). They were extremely helpful. They had seven batteries in stock; I bought three (any more than that would have been greedy).

Perhaps my timing was serendipitous, but I think a little legwork will turn up some batteries. Like me, you may have better luck at a smaller local retailer.

Waiter, hold the 1Ds Mark III; I'll have a 5D Mark II instead

Just looked it up on Vistek's website... $119. Price at Henry's is $100 more! How ridiculous is that? And according to Henry's, that's their "new lower price". Haha.

Really? That's just come down, it was over $200 when I last looked, on Wednesday when I bought the camera there. Perhaps the prices have dropped to something sensible and Henrys is just lagging behind. $120 is ok.

For only stills, you're right.
But once you start fiddling with video, you'll want/need a second battery.
But a fully charged battery lasts forever!
I am wondering at even needing a second battery for
I have not had to pop in the second battery yet. Maybe as they age....

Totally! That's the very first thing I thought of when I read the OP's subject line: another Battlestar Galactica fan!

To those of you who aren't BSG fans (it's a superb show that will be ending in another 8 episodes or so), the show very liberally uses the word "frac" as a substitue for that other well known F word - so much so that my wife and I have started to use the word in our day to day fun. Recent example, from my wife: "Why the frac do you need a new camera?" or "Do you really need a new fracing lens?" (as I've been eyeing both the 5DII and the 135L lately).
