Contest (pic)

I looked at these two great pictures a second time. I still pick #1 for a more natural look and pose. #2 is slightly more contrived looking.

Yearly contests are coming up in my area and I'm trying to get
16x20s ready. I honestly can't make up my mind which of the two
pictures below would have the best chance in the Color Division ,
"People" category. Of the two, which would you enter?
Number One

Or Number Two

If you'd be so kind as to give an opinion I'd appreciate it. You
can simply change the "Subject" line above to answer and put (nt)
"no text".
Thanks

No. 1 is definitely my favourite.

Harry.

I actually prefer #2, but feel the white blanket at the bottom detracts. So, I'd say #1 should be entered. Both are extremely beautiful pictures of a very beautiful little girl. Good luck

Jarrell,

two very nice evocative portrait shots here, but clearly No. 1 is the better pick for a competition. The distracting white area at the front of number two is a technical flaw that could well cost you the prize, or at least should be seen as such.

The catch lights, intimate composition and enigmatic smile on the child's face in No 1 make it a very compelling and thought provoking image.

It draws the viewer in and makes us ask, what is that smile all about?- exactly the kind of thing a well executed portrait is supposed to do.

With No 2, we wonder about the child but also "What is that white thing in front of her face?"- you DON'T want the judges doing that :))

Good Luck.

I agree, it is a very hard decision! Both are great shots! Both have a lot of feeling!

Just enter them both!!!! :C)

Guess if only one then number one.

No. 2 is my favorit, no. 1 is "to cute".

Just as an observer - #1 is a winner in anyones terms!
Just wait until I get my 4500 and see my grandkids!!!!
They will knock your socks off! (rose coloured glasses - of course)

Both are wonderful

With number two we have a moody captured moment, great for family and adding variety in a large collection of the same little person.

But in competition you'll need every edge you can conjure up. Therefore I'd go with the first image simply because it contains critical elements necessary to represent the category this image may fall into.
Well…
…. (again both are beautiful) ….

--Hi,

Number 2 would be my preference.

I am no judge though, but I like to critisize my own work(as it helps me improve).

Pic number 2 has more even lighting, less contrast, and the photo frame is filled out. It is a shame you could not get the same catch light in the eyes as you have in pic Number 1.

Good Luck with your Comp.

I'd like to thank everyone for taking the time to look and cast a vote! It looks like it's number one by a pretty wide margin. That's the one I'll enter then. If it doesn't even place everybody that voted for #2 can say, I TOLD YOU!! :)
Thanks again,
Jarrell
