I have stupidly paid out $1600 Australian for a Canon 5d (Mk I0) from a con-merchant trading as Talnut. Needless to say I have received nothing.

Check the http://www worldlawdirect.com/forum/online-purchases-sales/13867-line-fraud-indonesia-5 html to avoid being such a sucker as I have proved myself to be!
 
I just received an email from Talnut asking why I have not paid money into his bank account, so I rushed down to my bank and managed to stop the payment. It will cost me $50 or so in cancellation fees, but will be cheap to gain some experience in not being so trusting.

I have bought stuff through the "Photographic Trader" in Australia, and have a few times received the goods before the money could have reached the seller. When I rang to confirm receipt of the article, they often say "Oh well, you sounded honest". What a difference!

So you actually did not pay him anything, and he's waiting for
your payment to send you the camera, and you accuse him
of ripping you off? Sounds to me like he thought you were
trying to rip him off by expecting him to send you a camera
when you had not actually sent any money to him! Look at it
from his point of view.
 
The shop has an address and a 'phone number. Does the phone work? And, this money you sent, how did you send it??

Having read the details, I'm tempted to say :
"Don't ever believe an Australian"

You ordered a camera
You did NOT send any money
The guy inquires about the payment
You stop the transaction
You complain HE is ripping you off ?

Did I miss something ?
 
im assuming thats meant to read AUD$1600 for a 5D mk11?

if so you deserved to loose your money
just some old saying comes to mind
  • cant quite remember it somthing about too good to be true probally is or such like
and fools -money-parted etc
its a pity you got your money back -you might have learnt somthing
 
One saying I heard once says.

"When a man with money and no experience, meets a man with experience and no money. The man with the experience gets the money, and the man with the money gets the experience."
 
My original post showed that I HAD paid for the camera (Canon 5D Mark I, not Mk II).

On finding out that the site is a scam, and that the seller was emailing me for the money long after it should have been paid into his account, I rushed to my bank to cancel the payment. The "seller" advertises items for sale, but actually has nothing to sell.

My bank cofirmed that the Indonesian account had been frozen, meaning that at last the Indonesian authorities had at last started to act.

If he had been paid, then there would have been nothing to cancel
as he would have had the money already. No matter what you might
think, the bottom line is that you didn't pay him. Even if he is a scam,
you didn't pay him and you shouldn't claim you did as you still have your
money.
