Yearly contests are coming up in my area and I'm trying to get 16x20s ready. I honestly can't make up my mind which of the two pictures below would have the best chance in the Color Division , "People" category. Of the two, which would you enter?
Number One

Or Number Two

If you'd be so kind as to give an opinion I'd appreciate it. You can simply change the "Subject" line above to answer and put (nt) "no text".
Thanks

The eyes do it, and number 1 much better reflects the beauty of the eyes. You have such beautiful grandkids Jarrell. I honestly don't see how anyone else can compete lol. I look at both photos though and I'm drawn to those eyes.
God Bless,
Jim

Jarell. Question for you.
What is the best way to print a 16x20?
Are you going to use Genuine Fractals to get to that size?
What Printer or Service???
Thanks. Lloyd

Hi Jarrell,

IMHO I like the first one - I love the smile and that sparkle in her eyes! I am not a porfessional photographer so you may have to file my opinion under the citizen in the street category.

Anyway, the gift of taking a good photography is best expressed by the joy you bring to this forum with your photos!

God bless!

Jarrell I pick #1 based on pure emotional response without artistic or technical considerations

Lloyd, first of all let me say thanks for taking the time to respond on this thread. The girl is my grand daughter so I couldn't get past being personally biased on any picture of her and really to look at the two pictures from a judges point of view, which I feel you must do. Too often I've seen people enter photographs in contests of their children or pets that really didn't stand much of a chance, but for this thing of looking through rose colored glasses (we ALL do it), get upset because it didn't place.

On top of that, there are a LOT of people here that you can tap into their years of photography. But, even a beginner will know what he or she likes and doesn't like, and their opinion is important to me also.

I don't have Geniune Fractals so I'm relying on Photoshop to get me there. I did this last year and it did fine. The first picture is a 69 mb file and I'm having another one printed that is 107 mb. For the life of me I can't remember what I did to get it that high.

The prints will be done locally by Imaging Technologies and the cost for basic printing on a HP injet machine runs about $6 US per square foot. I know thats a strange way of pricing, but that's the way they do it. Mounting on 3/16 ths foam core board is extra.

The company also does prints in archival ink rated at about 150 year life, according to them. They will also laminate the prints if you want for, I think he said $7.

Jon, you could but then you're thrown into the "Special Process" category instead of the more open "People" category and I already have entries there. These contests unfortuanately still sorta look down their noses at us digital photographers (we're not real photographers) :) You just have to put up with it and go on.
