I just got the D100.....it appears that the tiff mode generates a larger file than NEF. Any pros or cons on this subject? Also, any suggestions on the best price/service for purchasing the battery pack that fits onto the bottom of the camera?

Regards,
Randy

TIFF is always larger than RAW.

RAW gives you the unprocessed file and access to the full 12 bit dynamic range.

Not sure you will need the battery grip - the battery lasts for ever!

TIFF will really slow down your shooting. It's a huge file and takes forever to write to the card.

NEF will give you everything you need to work on the photo and create great prints. I just finished shooting with a group of major photogs (using D1x's and D1H's -- they were envious of my D100) and no-one shot TIFF, all shot NEFs.

As to the battery grip...I just shot 1,500 frames in 4 days of concerts. I wouldn't be without the grip...not only does it let you flip the camera up to get a "portrait=type" shot without thinking, unlike the Canon grips, it has both command dials, which makes life very easy when you're shooting 80%-90% in the portrait mode.

1,500 frames and I didn't kill the pair of batteries in the grip!
