Greenbatteries replacement for NP-FM50 - any experience?

Joe,

I don't know anything about these batteries, but the Sony is rated at 8.5 wH capacity, and this one is rated at 1250 maH or 1.25 wH. It sounds like a much lower capacity battery, unless there is a mistake in their rating.

Wes
Sure looks like an attractive price for an NP-FM50 replacement at
$42.95... has anyone tried this battery in the F707? Is this a
fully-functioning battery that the camera will think is the real
McCoy?

http://shop.store.yahoo.com/greenbatteries-store/repbatforson.html

Also, the charger - again, $29.95 seems awfully attractive for an
AC/DC charger. Anyone tried it?

Thanks...

doesn't sound l;ike something I want to test on an expensive camera.
Where are these made and by who ?

Is the "green" for environmental or money ?

ps. I could not find a yellow pages listing for their store which they say (on their web page) is in Beverly MA at ZIP 01915.

The Sony is rated at 8.5 watt Hours and the 'Greenbatteries' at 1250 milliamp Hours, so you're comparing apples with oranges. One's a measurement of power, the other of currant.

However, if I remember correctly (please correct me if I'm wrong), 1.25A at 7.2V = 9w, so I think the capacity of the replacement is 9wH, slightly more than the original Sony.

As to whether of not they've cloned the InfoLithium bits correctly, I don't know.

I'm sure it's for money, but then Sony's in business to make money too!

I just got off the phone with Steve, the owner of the Greenbatteries.com business (978 969-2097). They don't manufacture the batteries, they're just a reseller. The same battery is sold by B&H under the "Lenmar" name ( http://www01.bhphoto.com/item/IC=LENPFM50-REG___BI=27 ).

He says it's a complete clone, complete with all the Infolithium bits.

Unfortunately the Lenmar replacement for the NP-FM50 has gotten some bad reviews here: http://www.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1009&message=2466473 .

I think I may stick with the Sony batteries, but will try the Greenbatteries AC/DC charger and let you know what happens.

Steve,

You're right. I'm so unaccustomed to seeing batteries rated in mAh, rather than mWh, that my mind immediately read mW hours. It looks like they're of pretty comparable capacities.

I remembered this thread. http://www.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1009&message=2861424

It seems despite the ratings, the Lenmar is only good for about 60% of the Sony's runtime (108 minutes vs 175min).
