I need a little help to determine where to set my menu settings for shooting portraits with a monolight.

I just got the camera and shot some outdoor stuff but I'll be doing portraits with a monolight and shoot-through or reflective umbrella.
One light to start.

But I have no idea how to set up the camera for it, curtains, etc. are pretty foreign to me.

Can somebody give me the place or places to start from which will experiment?
My lens will be the Canon EF 50mm 1.8.

Thanks, Bob

With an IR trigger mounted on the shoe. It's made by the same manufacturer. The monolight has a built-in slave sensor.

You'll get all kinds of top advise if you go to the "Lighting forum."

An excellent lens lasts a lifetime, an excellent DSLR, not so long.
