NYC: Ragged Subway Entrance

Nice shot.

Given the choice, I usually prefer B&W. But, in this instance, the color version highlights the deterioration much better. That rust just jumps out at the viewer.

Both of these images are excellent. I agree with Bill about the color bringing out more important detail. However, the b&w is a fine image.....Still, the detail in the colored image really makes the shot. :-)

It's interesting how different those images are: the same scene but one in color and the other in black & white. I've never done B&W; but your photos make me appreciate that some scenes might appear better in black & white than in color. I'll be thinking about this.

Thank you, Dez,

Jack

Just thought I'd add a comment to my post above (too late to edit).

I think the LX3 is capable of great b&w photos (in the right hands). Actually I don't think I've seen "any" digital b&w conversion images from any camera including dslr's that beat the image quality that this camera produces.

If I see another p&s camera I'm interested in getting in the future, I would keep this camera - just for the b&w feature. It's wonderful. B&W photography has always been my favorite.

Thanks so much Dez. Your photos are always interesting - and they tell a story. Always very well done. I always check out your threads.

Great lines and angles in this one Dez. I prefer the color one this time around.

Thanks and your welcome Jack. I had no intention of converting to B&W until I looked at the color image on my PC.

The station entrance probably looked like that 40-50 years ago, so I decided to make it look 'old'.

I think that the LX3 produces great B&W images in the Dynamic B&W setting as well. I mainly use the LX3 to do just that.........shoot in B&W and do minor tweaks letter. It's THAT good.

Here's some converted B&W from my D300, if you'd like to look:

Thanks for the kind comments Maria.

on a recent 800 mile trip up north from western North Carolina, we had an opportunity to survey America's crumbling infrastructure.

I am hopeful that we will soon see before and after pictures pictures posted as our country begins to recover from its downward spiral.

I also hope that the words "pundit" and "infrastructure" fade from our vocabularies as they are no longer required for a barage of depressing media commentary.

Yes...I guess this was a bit more comment than necessary.

Dez:

Did you mean to say "LOOKING" ...... or "LURKING"? I do a lot of both here! :-)
