My new 5DMkII's image quality compares favorably with inexpensive plastic cameras and old slide scans. Wish there was a "vignetting" option in the Picture Styles!

What a crazy comment. I did a pro photo shoot at a corporate party, not only did my output from my 5dII blow my old 5d's away, it blew my business partner's D2X shots away! No focus issues in a very low light museum. I think this camera is absolutely incredible. A great tool in the hands of a good artist will produce amazing results.

OP stated "image quality compares favorably with inexpensive plastic cameras" You are freaking crazy!

Nothing changed -- the 5DMkII's awesome!

I shot a series with a couple of great models yesterday. The post processing look was that washed out, heavily vignetted plastic camera look. I just thought it was funny using such a high-end camera with such beautiful IQ to create images that purposely look "bad".

Its called bad quality in crappy cameras. Creating that look with a DSLR is called "atmosphere". :-)

I'll admit it escaped me.

It has been a long week at work - and after picking up the MkII Saturday and not touching it till Sunday night due to some project requirements definitely "soured" me more than a little bit. I got the firmware updated, date set, checked for dead pixels (found NONE !) and took a few indoor shots - then crawled into bed.

But I got to stop at a local park tonight on the way home and took a few shots of the almost frozen lake and snow. The geese were all congregated in the small area just off shore that it was not frozen. Played with a few settings, but that was about it.

I have only started to read thru the manual, and have to start tweaking the options.

I'm excited about the potential of the camera - had put a lot of thought into whether to upgrade from the 5D, which I really loved, and in the end decided Saturday to do it. Fortunately Murphy's had several body-onlys in stock. They also said that they have moved them pretty quickly, and had none returned so far.
