Hi Kids,

I'd really like to know (if you feel like sharing) the names you are using at http://www.PhotoSig.com - I've run into a couple of folks from here but I sense there are others. But...I can't match your names here vs. there!

I'd love to view your photos and give you the 'thumb' :) but if I don't know who you are that makes it difficult.

I've only been there for 4 days and can only upload one photo/day so this gives me LOTS of time to look around the site. I'd rather visit you and help in any way I can.

I'll start by saying that my name at PhotoSig is Judy Sfisko. Will you tell me who you are on that site?

Judy

Hi Judy. I am under Barbara Breitsameter. Yes, my last name is a mouth full, it's said exactly like it's spelled.

I will take a look at your gallery.

Sorry to be a sour grape on this one, but I don't think going and giving people thumbs up just because you somehow know them or just doing it to "help them" is what photosig tried to achieve.

PhotoSig is actually a bit serious and critiques that people give one another are usually much more than some thumbs up and a "good job" or "great pic" slogans.

Psychephylax,

My experience on this is quite different. I've had quite a few "friends" on the forum critique my photos and I do not get consistent 3 thumbs from them! LOL! I think they have given critiques as honest as I get from the PhotoSig membership at large. The only advantage to having your friends view your images is they get seen a bit more. By the way, PhotoSig actually has a means to keep up with your favorite contributors by adding them to your favorites. IMHO, this does not violate the spirit or the law over at PhotoSig. Psych, what is your PhotoSig name?

It's considerably easy to figure out with a little bit of research...

I don't think she was inquiring because she wanted to intentionly give thumbs up to Oly members or to receive them. It's nice to view others work, especially when we all correspond with each other on the forum.

I've had people on this forum review my photos and not give me a good rating. Nothing personal, just their opinion.

I have been a little dissappointed on PhotoSig. Few give recommendations on HOW TO improve my photo. If you give me a one thumb up - tell me why. When I do, I write why and maybe what I would do instead.

I have found on this very forum that I get more help on how to take a better pic or how to on photoshop.

Judy, I think you already know mine :} . But for the rest it's
George Guinn

Please don't be kind because we are all uzi owners (or at least
Olympus). Your comment doesn't have to be how to improve a
photo it can be why you liked or disliked it also. That can help
as much as comments on how to either improve the initial shot
or how to PS it.

Got started because of this Sandman thread

Hi Judy,

I have posted a few over at PhotoSIG under LGault. Honest critiques always welcome!

Though I know some here think otherwise, I don't see any harm in viewing or commenting on each others' submissions. As far as I can tell, the evaluation process at PhotoSIG is far from perfect--it be very hit or miss depending on how enticing the thumbnail is or what time of day a photo is posted! Besides, for most people, it doesn't really matter how many thumbs up they have, the point is to improve their photography skills (and this happens only with constructive feedback, not by collecting thumbs up!!

Barbara,

Ditto. It bugs me a bit to see one or two word critiques on anything but a 3-thumber (i.e., a perfect picture). I mean, a critique of "nice pic" without some kind of explanation of how to improve the image, or at least what bugs you about the picture, isn't very useful, IMO.

First , I have posted a few shots over there under the name
Stephen S.

For the most part , from what I've seen so far , things aren't much
different over there . I think it's way over rated . I haven't received
many negative comments at all , and certainly none that were overly
helpful . Critiques over there are the same as they are here .... just
opinions. My photos look great to me and not so good to others. No
big deal. There may be a bigger potential audience over there , but
certainly not a better one. All the suggestions in the world probably
won't make me go back and reshoot one of my pics to please someone
else. Ain't gonna happen.

I don't care too much for all the girly bs over there either. All the pervs
in the world are on ready to enter a critique with what few keys still
work on their keyboards. Now I have to admit , I've seen a couple
decent erotic shots that were ok . But after 75 or 80 pages , you
kinda get tired of looking ! LOL Really though , most of it is trash in
my opinion . Still , because it is just an opinion , anything goes over
there.

PhotoSig should be fun for a while for some because it is "new" to
everyone. It appears to have become a "status symbol" for some
to have there shots posted and critiqued there. Maybe there is
something to be learned there , but I don't see it yet. I know I
have plenty to learn , but I'd rather teach myself . Far more fun .
I did join over there just to see what it was all about like everyone
else. After all the "they're really brutal over there" comments , I
thought maybe there was something to it. I get all I need as far
as critiques right here at "home" , and a WHOLE LOT MORE! LOL

Lastly , I will say that there are some incredible shots being posted
over there . Highly "manipulated" , but still incredible . That is reason
enough to check in on ocassion , just to see what the rest of the
world is doing. I think there is "something" to be learned from that.
But still....

Just my thoughts

Tim

To get one, give one, and reward those who expend energy on your image with a similar effort. Yes, it takes longer (like, you have to figure out why you like or dislike something, then play around with how to express it), thereby reducing the likely volume of 'payback' critique points, but it's instructive for both the photographer and reviewer. Cheerleading one-liners or their counterpart ethereal musings serve as little more than mutual ego stroking, IMNSHO. They seldom produce better images.
