The 7i really surprise me yesterday when I took it to the zoo with my daughter and two grand daughters. Here's a sample that has been cropped and a link to the rest of them. Say hi to Katie (left) and Montana.

Oh yea, it was hot! Left at 11:30 and the temps were in the mid 90's with high humidity. But it was still fun.

John,

My favorite is the swan photo...and the girls, of course. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Leah. I haven't taken a lot of great pics, but one thing that I have discovered. Out of every 100 or so pics, you only find a couple that really catch your eye. And MOST OF THE TIME, right after you take the photo, you KNOW it.

The swan and picture of the girls gave me an immediate feeling of YEP, that's a good one.

By the way, Clifford, not one of these photos had any post processing done to them. Just two of them were cropped. I think the 7i did remarkably well.

Alan:

Go to http://www.pbase.com and you can setup an account, upload your pics, and then just copy the link from the address bar to your message thread. These pictures were uploaded to Fototime because it is faster and easier to copy a bunch of pictures. There is a small annual charge ($ 23.95, I think) for setting up an account at Fototime, but I think it's more than worth it.

Let's try that again... the title of this thread should read

Henry DOORLY Zoo and 7i

BTW, based on Bryan Biggers site, I used the following settings when taking these pictures:

Contrast -2
EV -0.3
Color +1

I think they worked pretty good and will use them as the default settings from now on.

I find the rest of the photos mostly ok, but the one of the girls is simply unique and there will probably never be any other photo like that ever.

Thanks.

Thanks Jean, it struck me that way too. I only wish I could take more of them.

I really like pictures that are not posed and believe it or not, this was not posed. The girls just happen to move next to a big rock while we were roaming through the Desert Dome and I snapped away.

Lots of good shots there, and one, of course, which is completely unique. I also enjoyed the contemplative gorilla beside the tree-trunk.
Congratulations,

John,

I believe you! That's about the only way it could happen. if anyone ever manages to pose shots like that (and with children!) They're going to end up richer than the Beckhams.
Congrats again,
DaveMart

Another lucky shot. He was thumping around and just plopped down next to the tree and stared up at me. What an opportunity. Snap!

I hope you don't mind me saying, John, but I think many of these photos are out of focus. Take a look at pictures 3, 7, 20, 43, 72, etc... I just scanned through and looked at mostly the close-ups since they should be sharper in general, but they don't seem that way. May be it's just the aggressiveness of your Jpeg compression. Some how, they just don't look sharp to me. Please correct me if I am wrong. Not trying to pick on your photos. Just asking if every one sees the same things I do, and if any one can offer insights or suggestions.

There's no doubt that the picture of the girls are great and by itself is worth the whole outing.

hey John...would you mind sharing your settings that you used..did you use the program mode? what iso? thanks..t

Tomseek:

I'm definitely not making excuses, but many of these photos were taken under "point & shoot" conditions. They were all posted right out of the camera with no post processing, except for a couple of crops. Generally, these results are as good or better than any other digital that I've ever used. In terms of the overall quality of the photos under these conditions, I'm very happy with the results.

I'm not offended by your comment, in fact, I noticed quite a few were not in perfect focus, but this did not surprise me under the circumstances.

Thanks for your comments.

Twolf:

I used the same settings that I've used for the last week or so ever since I read Bryan Biggers site.

Contrast -2
EV -0.3
Color +1

They seem to work real well unless you have a polarizing filter on. In this case, I'd change the EV to 0.
