Introductions please?!?!?

Greetings. My wife, son (17) and I live in Port Credit, near Toronto, Ontario where I work in IT in a largish corporation.

I mainly lurk here, not having many skills or tips to offer, and I learn something new almost daily. My website, below, has some observations and suggestions for organizing digital images that may serve as a starting point for others.

I use Photoshop 7 and I have a Canon G2. Although I love digital, I also love classic photography and continue do a lot of shooting with a pair of Olympus OM-1 35mm cameras (lenses for them are now a bargain on eBay :-) I also have a wonderful old Rolleiflex TLR that I like working with and will soon be getting an Epson 2450 scanner to digitize images with it.

To me a camera is simply a capturing tool. Whether I start with my G2 or scan 35mm with my Minolta Scan Elite II, it's all digital and that's where retouching begins!

Cheers, Gene

Yes, he did write one and yes, I do have a copy. I printed it out and it is somewhat threadbare now. The joy of eBooks; I'll just print another one!

Hi!

My name is Lin and I am from Vancouver, BC. (Canada). I live with
my husband, 2 dogs and 2 ponds full of Koi and goldfish. I usually
work in the motion picture industry but I am taking the summer off
and spending some time with my camera, Photoshop and gardening. I
discovered this forum about 2 months ago and have been lurking here
ever since!

I bought Photoshop about 2 years ago and have taken a few courses,
etc but lately I have had the time to spend on it and I am
seriously hooked! I am also a techno-geek and have to have every
new computer gadget that comes on the market so I have had a long
history with digital cameras. I currently have a Nikon
Coolpix5000. This summer's project is to stop using it as a 'Point
& Shoot' camera and improve my shots. My flowers and my dogs are
being hounded as subjects to practice on!

Hi to all,

Great idea Paige. Enjoyed reading all the posts to this thread. Have spent many hours lurking on dpreview (a few posts) mainly on the Mac Tools, Nikon & Epson forums. Found everybody here to be extremely helpful and knowledgeable.

I live on Long Island; that small land mass extending east from Manhattan, NY. I have six children (the youngest having just graduated college this June) and eight grandchildren. Being semi-retired and recently divorced (1998) I decided to delve back into photography, an interest I had years ago but at a time when leisure hours was devoted to family for the most part. My primary photoshoots center around landscapes, some macro and my two-year-old grandson.

When I decided to jump back into the water I went with a conventional SLR (Nikon F100) as this was what I was accustomed to. However, surfing the web for photography insights to hone my aged/limited skills I discovered the extent to which digital photography was being used. My next purchase was a Nikon D1x and the plunge into digital began.

I have used Macs since the early eighties and Powerbooks have been my system of choice for many years. I currently use a PBG3 500 w/768 megs of ram running OS 9. Since the LCD of my powerbook isn't the greatest for color management I recently purchased a Lacie monitor and Blue Eye calibration package. WOW! What a difference.

Had purchased Photoshop Elements a year or so ago thinking this would be quite sufficient for my minimal needs. However, countless hours of researching the digital world revealed that Photoshop was the package of choice by most digital users and most discussion of digital processing centers around its use. A couple days ago I bought Photoshop 6.0 off the Ebay auction site and am looking forward to using it. I will definitely be lurking on this forum for insights into using this complicated but exciting software package.

Have a great day all.

--Darn, I have a PS7 educational version, unopened, that I have no use for. What did you pay for a PS6?
