Another post regarding my new iPHONE.

Is there a better or "best" way to show photos on your phone?

Is the photo viewer on your phone fine or is there a better 3 party viewer?

And, should I download my photos on the phone or go to my web site and view the photos there?

So , what do you do to show your portfolio? (on your phone that is)

For the money, you can't beat it.

On my PC, I created a folder (Examples) and subfolder based on types of work I do: Weddings, Family, Maternity, Senior, Corporate.

Then I found several showcase shots for each and put them in those folders. About 50 each.

Then I set iTunes to sync photos within the main folder (Examples) and sub folders. So when I go into an interview, I simply pull up the folder that is applicable to them, and hand them my phone. They have fun flicking through the examples.

TIP: Make sure to put your phone into airplane mode to disable incoming calls and text messages from popping up. Nothing more embarrassing than your customer flicking through examples, and your friend sends you a text message that pops up for them to read in front of that picture. That could be very.... bad....

Canon, Nikon, PhaseOne.... but it's "iPhones" here????????????

Ouch.

For those that shoot weddings, seniors, babies, etc., I'm sure their clients want photos for their phone so I would think you would want to give them files that are sized right so your work looks as good as it can. As they show those images to their friends, hopefully their talking about you too. Sounds good to me!

Rich, seems like you're referring to software but you might be interested in this hardware:

Brilliant gadget - still early days - should get better and better. Fantastic miniature / portable way to show pics and movies.
Cheers,

It looks like they resize the photos. Test with just one. When you look at it on your phone, try zooming in. See? Try with 50 high res files. Then look at how much room was taken with photos. Not much. Yes they are resized.

The pico projector simply connects to your phone and allows you to show images on any surface, a friends Tshirt for instance or wall, think the prices will drop dramatically in next 12mnths.

You can have it done (pick two): () good () cheap () fast. -Anonymous

Yeah, right now the price is about USD$ 300. I can see photographers coming to meetings with a Pico in one pocket and an iPhone in the other. Could create a market for well white balanced screens that fold up and go into another pocket....

Will be interesting to see how this develops.

After looking at a couple of Youtube videos with the Pico player I question weather it's resolution is anywhere good enough to properly project my photos...

That's one thing I like about the iPHONE, it's got a wonderful display, but the Pico looks washed out... but I would expect that from a projector. i don't need my photos bigger so much as better resolution.

Now on the other hand, the Pico looks amazing! Very cool ... perfect for video

Check out the reviews of the Pico on amazon, they're terrible. I'd wait until the next generation, or the one after that. It'll be cheaper by then too!

You can sync the portfolio on your desktop machine to the iPhone (using iTunes). Then hit the Photos virtual button at the bottom of your iPod screen and start flicking.

The screen offers very good quality for standard resolution images, although I wish the images retained more sharpness as you zoom in.

I went to two bridal shows in the last two weeks, as a vendor/exhibitor, and I found my new iPod Touch (iPhone without the phone) incredibly handy. Thanks to a wifi connection, I had my Google Calendar and my business partner's shared Google Calendar available in real time, using an app called SaiSuke. This let me check our respective availability on the fly.

In Photos, I had a "Before and After" folder with several examples of unedited images versus ones I touched up and perfected in Photoshop. It's a great way to showcase your retouching skills (double-tap to zoom in on details), and it lets you get close to the bride & groom as you show them your work, which introduces a kind of intimacy (I don't mean that in a creepy way!).

Finally, using the FANTASTIC app Briefcase, I had a folder auto-copied from my main Mac's desktop that contains PDFs of all my 2009 contracts. This wasn't primarily for purposes of the trade show, but it came in handy regardless when two or three potential clients inquired about contractual details. I just gave them the iPod, flicked to the clauses in question, and let the clients read the relevant passages then and there.

Now, when I'm on a job, I have a certified (by Echosign) e-copy of the contract in my pocket, on my pod (PDF), plus all kinds of other pertinent information. Even if I forget to bring a file that's on my Mac and I need it, I can log in remotely and view/download it.

The iPod Touch (the iPhone is the equivalent, with calling built in) has quickly become an indispensable business tool for me, one of those devices that makes me go "I wonder how I lived without it." On account of the lovely screen, it is especially handy for photographers, though other professionals might benefit as much.

One more tip: You can put slideshows together, with transitions and zooms, in iPhoto or Photomagico, them export them as a movie. Open the movie in Quicktime, then find the export command and choose "Export to iPhone." Transfer the resulting video to your iPhone/iPod, and presto, another cool presentation tool that highlights your talents.
