Another post regarding my new iPHONE.
Is there a better or "best" way to show photos on your phone?
Is the photo viewer on your phone fine or is there a better 3 party
viewer?
And, should I download my photos on the phone or go to my web site
and view the photos there?
So , what do you do to show your portfolio? (on your phone that is)
You can sync the portfolio on your desktop machine to the iPhone (using iTunes). Then hit the Photos virtual button at the bottom of your iPod screen and start flicking.
The screen offers very good quality for standard resolution images, although I wish the images retained more sharpness as you zoom in.
I went to two bridal shows in the last two weeks, as a vendor/exhibitor, and I found my new iPod Touch (iPhone without the phone) incredibly handy. Thanks to a wifi connection, I had my Google Calendar and my business partner's shared Google Calendar available in real time, using an app called SaiSuke. This let me check our respective availability on the fly.
In Photos, I had a "Before and After" folder with several examples of unedited images versus ones I touched up and perfected in Photoshop. It's a great way to showcase your retouching skills (double-tap to zoom in on details), and it lets you get close to the bride & groom as you show them your work, which introduces a kind of intimacy (I don't mean that in a creepy way!).
Finally, using the FANTASTIC app Briefcase, I had a folder auto-copied from my main Mac's desktop that contains PDFs of all my 2009 contracts. This wasn't primarily for purposes of the trade show, but it came in handy regardless when two or three potential clients inquired about contractual details. I just gave them the iPod, flicked to the clauses in question, and let the clients read the relevant passages then and there.
Now, when I'm on a job, I have a certified (by Echosign) e-copy of the contract in my pocket, on my pod (PDF), plus all kinds of other pertinent information. Even if I forget to bring a file that's on my Mac and I need it, I can log in remotely and view/download it.
The iPod Touch (the iPhone is the equivalent, with calling built in) has quickly become an indispensable business tool for me, one of those devices that makes me go "I wonder how I lived without it." On account of the lovely screen, it is especially handy for photographers, though other professionals might benefit as much.
One more tip: You can put slideshows together, with transitions and zooms, in iPhoto or Photomagico, them export them as a movie. Open the movie in Quicktime, then find the export command and choose "Export to iPhone." Transfer the resulting video to your iPhone/iPod, and presto, another cool presentation tool that highlights your talents.
