Nice demonstration. The only thing that I did find flaws on was the manual tracking of the woman walking towards the camera which you seem to struggle with focussing, maybe too much shallow DOF on some footage when you dont need to but other than that very well done.

Hi,

Many thanks on your kind words and your observations; I'm really glad that the whole point of the story is getting across - it was something I was quite nervous about!

You're right about the focus tracking; it just wasn't possible (I need much more practise and maybe a focus pull accessory). In the end I gave up trying to track her but did a dreamy ina nd out kind of thing which isn't to some people's taste. Strangely I've also had people complimenting the technique! I would have preferred a focused tracking shot though.

With the phone I was also playing with the depth of focus, which again has been liked by some and not by others! Guess its all subjective!

Thanks again,

Edmond

Congratulations. I loved this short film and found it better than
others I have seen, including LaForet.

That was an excellent short movie. It captured the essence of the
human condition that we are ultimately alone with our possessions
that outlast us and the soundtrack was so evocative of a hidden
sensuousness aqnd longing.

I loved the way you thought through the storyline and each individual
segment, focusing on the key subject in each scene and presumably
shooting on a tripod with focus, white balance and metering set
manually.

The only scenes that did not quite work for me were the bench and
walk towards the camera scene on the embankment and the message on
the phone scene. Focus, which you had done so well in all other
scenes by setting and then having movement without change in focus,
was done differently in the two scenes I have singled out. You tried
to refocus more than once during the movement and that just seemed
unnecessary to me.

This film sold the idea of the DSLR video to me more than anything
thus far.

Thank you for sharing. I will watch it again and again.

Hi,

Thanks for the kind words. As far as the focus tracking, you're right. See my reply to an earlier post on that subject.

Cheers,

Edmond
