HAHAHAHHA, that is awesome!!! i don't know why, but seeing TLJ riding that horse made me crack up...
 
great shots,love the first two,very good contrast and sharpness,these lenses can realy do the job in good light,I have found that closer sports action when using a flash helps focus this lens greatly.

thinking about trying to go for some cross county/eventing shots myself,

was this with tri or monopod ??

It did surprisingly well for being wide open all day too. IN fact, I did not sharpen the reduced files but the large jpgs (converted in C1 4.6) are in fact very sharp.
