Hi all, just recently purchased a used Nikon SB-28 for off-cam flash use. Anywho, I decided to mount it on my Canon 5D to see if it will work. I believe I read that it will work in Auto or Manual. Unfortunately, it does not fire at all when mounted on the 5D. It works fine off-cam via Poverty Wizards however, as well as when mounted on my Nikon D50 (in Auto & Manual mode). So, if there an issue with the flash? Or is this model simply not compatible at all with Canon models, or specifically the 5D? Any insight would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

you may have to tape some of the contacts on the bottom oof the SB-28 to get it to fire on the 5D. You only need the center contact of the flash to fire it, the others are for Nikon's TTL which obviously is not going to work on the 5D.

Hmmm thanks for the tip, I'll give that a try. Any advice on what kind of tape would work best?

I'd use gaffer's tape if it's handy but for short term use, electrical tape will do. Note that some electrical tape leave adhesive residue when you peel it off from whatever it's stuck on, you don't get this problem with gaffer's tape. Then again, gaffer's tape might be a bit thick for this particular applicaton.
