How much would you pay for a D1? There is one on Craigslist

except for the handling... so there goes the D2X or the D2Xs.

I love my D2Xs but my buddy has a D300 and it regularly beats the pants out of my camera in lower light situations.

Yet, I still love the colors that come out of my camera JPGs ;-) D2X still has a terrific AA filter and Hot Mirror Filter and great processing.

I'd say the D300 is a little better at Vivid and Landscapes and the D2X is best at skin tones... but it is all subjective at the end anyhow.

shutter counts...

If over 50,000 shutter counts, and visible wear and tear, I would go
as far as $800.00
For a D1? They're not that collectible, yet. Maybe in 20 years...

Right now, pforsell got it right. I see D1 typically go for $100 to $150.

--You must be a broke all the time if you are willing to pay $800 for a Nikon D1 in 2009. For past year all D1 from bid up to a like new went from $75-200 at best. Yes you can get very good condition Nikon D1 for less than $150. BTW I did not sold my D1 I just put a 3 older lenses and a Tenba bag and give it to my 16 years old nephew as I don't need forth DSLR. Hey I have D70 and D2H maybe you will get one since you are willing to pay $800 for D1 how about $1300 for D2H I will trow a free shipping and D70.

I wouldn't pay nothing. It's just waste of money buying D1 now days.
--It is not a waste of money since it cost a $150 so this is are not a any big money and for anyone that likes to learn photography is better option than any newer camera. Reason is it will force a new student to think whats is doing spend more time developing a PP work flow and bring getter understanding of exposure with lesser latitude range. Besides it still makes nice pictures and drives older AF lenses like they intended to be driven with motor with lot of torque ( my D2H is not as fast with non AFS lenses as D1 system)

Unfortunately like most have said here, the D1 isn't worth a lot of money. You should be able to pick one up fairly cheap. What most here are forgetting to mention is how much fun they can be. The best way to negate the NTSC color space is to shot raw. One of the beauties of this is that the 3MP files process very quickly on even old laptops and they don't eat up your hard drive space as fast as 12MP files. Not only that, the image quality is great. Perfect for web pics, or up to about 8"x10" prints. If you have around $100-$150 I would say go for it.

I know that feeling. I keep certain camera gear around specifically for family members, friends, and favorite students. I haven't shot it myself for about 10 years, but my FM2 is a "social butterfly" and gets to spend time with a lot of nice people.

--Water under a bridge don't worry I have a thick skin. BTW I have not see your post for a wile but you missed my post about new lens I get its a Elicar Super Macro 90mm f2.5 that gets 1.25:1 magnification by it self. I have never see or heard about any macro lens that gets pass 1;1 on its own. Since I had used normal Elicar 1;1 macro I can compare both and that Super Elicar is better in every way including normal distance shooting wide open.

This is a lens.I did get it in a late fall so I have not spend much time with it but few outings I had I like it. It has 55mm filter size so even at 1:1 my Fuji S5 build in flash dose not cast shadow at 1:1.

Since you know a lot about macro have you heard anything about lens like that and why other lens makers don't make any macro that pass 1:1 ( except Canon 5:1 zoom but that's another animal that can't be use in normal distance).

I recently bought at D1x in near mint condition for just £249. It's a 5mp camera. But shoot in RAW, and it produces (interpolated) 10mp files! The sensor is unusual, and unique - see dpreview's review for an overview.

I have a D300, and the D1x compares in terms of IQ - it's not as sharp, and is noiser at high ISOs, but the D1x colour/tonality is better in my opinion. I am utterly amazed that a camera of this quality was available in 2001.
