FZ50 Seagulls, ducks and a bonus

Hi Heather! I'm glad I spotted this thread, for two reasons. I've been trying to identify a speckly brown gull I photographed on New Year's Day in Blackpool. Thanks to you and Trevor, I now know it's a young Herring Gull!

More importantly, had I not seen the thread I would have missed your wonderful bird shots and the fantastic bonus - well done!

Best wishes,
Linda

Like the shots, Cheshire is teaming with Buzzards but they are hard
to approach, occasionally we'll pass right by one in a tree at the
roadside when cycling. We nearly always spot at least two and
sometimes as many as eight in a day(not always close though).
Thanks
Thank you John, you must take your camera next time and try to get a shot!!

Kites here are Red Taiils, there are many of them less then 50 miles from here, and they are gradually moving out from those breeding areas.

And Heather, have had computer problems and ISP, now on a new ISP, so hoping things get better. I'm surprised to know you have Buzzards down South, I've only seen them in Wales and Scotland. Other than the ones in various Falconries.
Must find my Kite Pics, now everything seems to be working.

Heather - sorry missed this theread until now!

That's an awesome (not a word I use much) shot(s) of the buzzard. I only have to think about getting closer than half a mile and they fly off!! How did you do it?

I note that you have the same problem with CG as I do, no matter how carefully one focusses their heads are always a bit fuzzy. I can't work it out!!

Anyway, a great series - even though that buzzard shot will haunt me until I do half as well!

Thanks Mike, I appreciate a word like that!! like I said I have been trying for a shot like this for about 2 years, it is very unusual that it didn't fly away, I can only presume as it was in a fairly built up area it was use to people, it did fly off at the first car that came along.

I wish you luck in your quest for getting a buzzard, I know just how hard it is!!

Lovely shots!

Buzzard, buzzard, that's no buzzard, LOL! I would call that a hawk. To us here in America, buzzards are vultures. Which are very easy to get pictures of!

Wikipedia: "In the U.S., the term "buzzard" is never used to refer to birds of prey, like hawks, eagles, falcons, and owls, outside of this context." and "The Old World and New World uses are almost antonyms."

We learn something here every day! Here's a picture of a black vultures and some turkey vultures (both buzzards here):
