Well it worked! For months now I've been secretly telling myself and others that I'm going to have a D700 and today it happened. My wife took me to the camera store and told me to pick out any camera ( including the D3) that I wanted as a wedding present from her. I was like a kid in a candy store. I actually chose the D700 cause that D3 is just too big for travelling. I'm a very lucky man. First, I got the girl I wanted, now i've got my baby. The camera is beyond awesome. I am completely blown away by its low light capabilities and incredible feature set. I don't think I'll need another camera for a long time. Time to Ebay the D200. If it can happen to me? Mu

Congrats! Gadgets are great but some other things (like getting the girl you want) are priceless. So yes, you are definately a lucky man!

BTW, don't want to ruin it for you, but I presume you are getting something of similar value as your own wedding gift to her. So I gues you ll be paying for the camera after all ;-)

But then again, she could have bought you a washing machine...

Enjoy your new gear!

Congrats!

I too, received a photographic wedding gift, a 17-55 2.8.

Set a date yet?

--Rookie. You have no idea how long and hard you will work for that. You will be reminded often whenever occasion will suite a wife. Get your equipment with your own earn money even if that be not D700 but old scratch out D70.

Congratulations on the new camera. Make sure to visit proflowers.com asap as an investment to seal the deal on a 24-70mm for your first anniversary gift :)

BTW, the D700 is a great camera and plenty of fun to use -- enjoy!

Time for an upgrade to that diamond ring! :)

I've been away from the forum for some time now and wanted to Thank everyone for their humor and their insight.

As an add on, My wife told me she had some old Nikon lenses in the closet (I kid you not) from her days of shooting film. So what do I pull out of the closet? A 16 mm Fisheye 2.8 ,a 50 mm 1.4 and a 105 mm Macro 2.8
All manual focus but who's complaining at this point. Cheers
