Hi, I'm from Singapore, sold off my 7 months old first digital camera Fujifilm 2800z and upgrade to Fujifilm S602z on 4 Jun 2002. After taking some shots and trying some of the functions for about a month, I'm very happy and satisfied with its features. Some reasons why I upgrade to S602 compared to 6900 and 2800 is because:

i.) It can take both CF type I & II and SmartMedia cards.

ii.) Unlimited time video recording with audio

iii.) Uses AA size battery (recommend to use AA rechargeable battery more economical)

iv.) Improved CCD (3rd Generation)

v.) Super Macro mode setting (Can take a picture as close as 1cm or less than ½ inch from the lens)

vi.) Camera has a very firm grip and well balanced weight like holding a SLR pro camera

vii.) Fast focus and shutter speed when taking a shot

viii.) ISO can be set up to 800 & 1600

Beside the improve features, it also gives an excellent image quality for a 3MP & 6MP (interpolated) digital camera with 6x zoom. Great shots for day outdoor scenery.

Although I read a lot of review and comparison between the S602z and Nikon 5700. What really made me decided to buy the S602z rather than waiting for the Nikon 5700 to be out in July 2002 was that the LCD screen is very small 1.5" for Nikon 5700 as compare to 1.8" for S602 and in long run AA size battery either alkaline or rechargeable is more practical instead of using the Lithium-Ion type battery & charger which is more costly. Price are more expensive for the Nikon 5700 due to it's brand and 5MP.

Would like to share some of the shots taken with my S602z camera with different setting:

Problems

For such a digital camera with 3MP should give at least a 64MB SmartMedia or CF card instead of the 16MB card. What can I shoot for a 16MB if I set to 3M Fine or 6M Fine?

Disappointed with the low light auto-focus problem, start appearing the hand shaking icon on the EVF or LCD even under lighting which I thought wasn't that "Low" at all. Even a room with floor area 4 x 5 m2 with a florescent light also consider "Low" light. Have to use built-in or external flash. Need tripod stand if flash not use. Built-in flash range not long distance enough, up to 3-4m only.

Not Impressed with the S602Z, I purchased one of these to replace my Fuji 6900Z and was dissapointed, the focus was softer and there is definatly an orangy cast on images with red, I just could not live with it even though it has some very nice features, so I returned it to the shop (Jessops UK) and exchanged it for another Fuji 6900Z now reduced in price again due to the fact it has been discontinued, you can purchase a 6900Z from Jessops for £499.00, excellent buy.

If you want to upgrade your 6900z, then the 602z isn't an upgrade, is a sideways move. An upgrade is the Nikon 5700.

The Nikon 5700 is almost twice the price of the Fuji. It is a compliment to compare it to the Fuji. I actually compared them as well, and the Fuji 602 won because of price and features that the Nikon didn't have (AA batteries, unlimited movie mode, availablity!!!, uses any brand of flash, and much lower cost).

Ahh, Olympus, great cameras, I remember someone who purchased a 6900z posting pics from his c2100,....fantastic clarity and sharpness, that 10x lens sounds great but I wonder if it is too long for sharp results in practise or would create too much barrel distortion.

If you want to upgrade your 6900z, then the 602z isn't an upgrade,
is a sideways move. An upgrade is the Nikon 5700.
