Hello everyone,

I haven't really posted any of my snaps to these forums for public viewing, but figured now would be a good time to try and see what others think about my "work". I'm by no means a pro, but a hobbyist who's got some years of experience behind me with very much varying levels of activity.

If I were to give myself a review in my skill level on a scale from 1-10, I'd propably rate myself around 7.. From my own personal view, I think I occasionally nail some nice shots but tend to get more of the "not so great ones". Also at times I just shoot the average joe kind of vacation/tourist shots..

Anyway, didn't mean to bore you all so below are a couple of pics. Feel free to comment.

No offense taken, but could you be more specific?

Was it the green eyes that you found really bad or was it the general feel of the pic? The green eyes is something that I for sure agree are a bit nasty, but since I don't have a flash other than the built-in one there wasn't too much I could do in the very little light available. For sure I could have done p&p to remove the glow but I'm afraid with my skills results would have been worse..

keep posting, don't let yourself be discouraged by unhelpful or insulting feedback... look at LOTS of the pictures posted on these forums - you'll see many fantastic shots - compare them to yours and see what you can learn from them... maybe pic up a book or two on exposure, composition... but mainly, enjoy yourself and watch as your photos evolve
good luck and happy new year!

don't post pictures that you know are not very good.

Then don't take the picture. Move the cat closer to the window or something. No excuses.

Show only your better pictures, nothing else.

Picture No. 2 looks fine to me.

In picture No. 1 the cat appears to be a little overexposed. Since the cat was, by far, the main subject I think I might have used center weighted or spot metering on the cat. I am not a pro either.

If you used a flash on the cat, I suggest you use more ambient light and less light from the flash.

FINE PRINT: I reserve the right to be wrong. Should you prove me wrong, I reserve the right to change my mind.

To be honest: I can't be more specific.
I don't want to be rude. But I don't understand that you've posted these pics.
I can't see anything positive.

I advice you only to post pictures that you're content with.
I can't imagine that you've a good feeling seeing your own pictures.
And it isn't only the eyes of your cat.

If the op had posted without a picture and indicated he wanted to know how to correct A, B and C, the first response would probably be:

The only way we can provide good suggestions about what you did wrong is if you post the picture. I have seen posts like this many times.

I might also add I have seen "things" posted that were neither photographs nor works of art (in my opinion). This is not the pro forum.

Picture No. 2 looks fine to me.
What's the X-factor of pic 2?
It is a common snapshot. Not realy sharp, not interesting
I agree picture number 2 is not as sharp as I would like to have seen it. However, the center of the picture was fine. I think the op had a problem with DOF. But you must consider the op may have wanted this affect.

The picture is not interesting to either you or I, but it may be very interesting or important to the op. Then again, maybe he took it just to get feedback on what he did wrong.

You are much more qualified to point out areas of improvement that the op could make than I am. However, like the op, I am trying.

I, for one, would welcome the OP to post another picture. One that HE thinks is up to par.

If we get another one like the first two, then, well.....

I too would love to see the pictures to see what all the fuss is about. I think these forums exist to improve everyone's photography skills. jlindstrom please keep posting pictures for people to see and provide C&C, it is one the easiest ways to improve.

WOW....You say did not want to be rude....but then did exactly that!

Why did you not help the person instead of beat him down?

You could have easily gave him some pointers to help him make a more interesting picture? It too bad that he posted pictures that were not up to your standards.

Man his first post you you may have frightened him away from this site. Good job.
humph....
I don't want to be rude, but ...

If you were to give yourself a review for photo #1 on a scale from 1-10?
Take some good lessons.
