I've been watching the availability of this flash since April. It seems strange that this flash is on back order everywhere except Sonystyle.com.

At risk of sounding rash, could Sony be trying to make more money selling the flash to consumers rather than distributers?

Or is the price difference great enough for consumers to avoid Sonystyle.com and buy them everywhere else?

I just got one from 47th st Photo in the US. At the time they had 93 of them. It was on e-bay as a single item for bidding. I was outbid and then got an e mail for ebay stating that I could purchase this item for 109.00US. I did.

Hi Jared-5,

I was at an outlet meca located between Houston and Austin last weekend and saw that they had the flash at a Sony outlet there for $84.

I was one of the lucky ones that was able to get one at Dell within a week of my order for less than that a few months back so I did not need other one. Since it was in an outlet, may it was refurbished?? If I had that store's number, I would give it to you to call and inquire. Good luck in your quest! Cheers.

I too have been watching the availability of this ... and it seems nobody has them in stock ... EVER! If you look closely at SonyStyle, you'll see they don't even have them in stock ... you can order THROUGH them, but the product is actually shipped factory direct to the consumer. Still haven't pegged the reasoning behind this.

Maybe Sony (like other manufacturers) did not expect the ratio of camera to accessory purchases to be so close to even. Maybe they will begin building a better in-camera flash, or more likely, they may build more flash units from now on.

Or... maybe Sony will put a REAL hotshoe on their cameras so we can all use the other flash units we all probably have laying around our houses from the old film SLR days. Not.
