Panachallenge #53 Doors is under way.

"The theme is Doors and Doorways. So many doors to choose from, your problem will be trying to decide which door to enter (into the challenge that is). Don't be afraid of the metaphorical door if you want to go through that door and if you think the image is strong enough photographically to capture other imaginations besides your own. Dorset's Durdle Door comes to mind or the entrance to Petra in Jordan. Long way to travel to get your door :)"

Entry period: Sunday, December 7 through Saturday, December 27
Voting: Sunday, December 28 through Thursday, January 1

You may submit entries taken with a Panasonic Lumix digital camera to the main category, and/or you may submit entries taken with any camera to the open category. The subject applies to both categories.

Your photo for either category must be taken during the entry period, starting Sunday, December 7.

For more info, go to http://www.panachallenge.com/challenge
Rules: http://www.panachallenge.com/challenge/rules.php

Good luck!

... You've chosen a great topic Dave! Doors are a favourite subject of mine and it's a pity we can't use photos taken outside the challenge period as I have loads :)

I choose the same theme for a fairly recent Canon forum Mini Challenge and there were some fantastic entries. If anyone wants some door ideas the thread is here:

http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/readflat.asp?forum=1010&thread=29434181

There were 52 entries and it would be great if we could get that many for this challenge.

Thanks Lee for hosting these challenges with LaRee so seflessly. Hardly anyone ever says thanks.

You are right about doors. I never miss a great looking door when ever I see one. Unfortunately I see the best ones when I travel. I am going to have to scour my meager neighborhood for something interesting. You had some really interesting doors in that link. I know you would like to visit Spain just about now for a great entry, but lucky for you England has some wonderful old doors.

Dave, you're right about doors and travelling. All my shots are from my travels abroad. There may be some wonderful old doors in the UK, but not in my neck of the woods I'm afraid! So it's scouring for me too :)

And yes, I would like to visit Spain right now!

We will find our door Linda. I am sure there will be some good entries for this challenge.

Four days left to polish up your door pic and get it in. Not too late to let inspiration hit you between the eyes for that winning masterpiece.

Just submitted my two entries. Good luck everyone!

According to my clock, that I just sync'd to the gov't clock, as of this typing, there's 2 hours & 40 minutes left of Saturday the 27th & even more for those on the left coast... There was no specific hour deadline, so one assumed that all of Saturday the 27th was included for submissions...
Hence my subject line....

Well, thanks for your support and eloquent language.

The challenge page on the site itself has an exact countdown in minutes and seconds to the end of the entry period. It's midnight UTC / GMT - it's rather hard for me living in the UK to cater completely for all American timezones (and there's rather more to the world too). I need to sleep sometime. This cutoff time is the norm, where it is different it is explicitly stated.

There were at least 20 other days to enter...

Yeah don't mind me.. Just chalk it up to another classless yank snap-shooter with little chance in hell of winning, perpetuating the stereotype & needing to lay off the caffeine... Nyuk, Nyuk, Nyuk!! ';-}

And in spite of that, thanks for your tireless persistence in handing the whole affair & I'm not being sarcastic on this last point...

A few pictures of doors from my recent trip - cannot enter these in the challenge as there were not all shot by a Panasonic camera, but just wanted to share these... C&C welcome and appreciated!

Those are all very good shots! The doors are interesting, and the colours and textures are great.

You could have entered one of these in the open category, which is for any make of camera.

Thanks for sharing!

Did not notice the doors challenge till it was too late... :-(

No worries, and thanks for your comments!

Congratulations to all the winners!

I'd had no idea we were voting for the top five this time round, rather than the usual top ten. Was this announced somewhere? I can't find any reference to it in this thread. It may well have made a difference to how I voted.

It was - still is - on the challenge page: "Please select 5 entries to vote". I don't like doing this, but when we only have 23 entries it is absurd to pick a top ten...
