Dear uncle Dave,

You have inspired me a lot in Photography, and taking inspiration from you I took my new cam to the fish market and surrounding in Muscat, Oman.

I hope you won't mind me posting pics in this thread, they are all from CANON D1000.

This is a tribute to you..

Hope you will like them ..

... Had a look through your Flickr site. First 4 or 5 pages anyway.

My first comment. IMG_0155 is a brilliant image. Love it. You may want to crop away a little of the top and left though.

In the market, I find the most interesting images are those which draw your eye into the scene. The best example of this is IMG_0857. Other good examples are 'brisk business' and 'awesome sizes'.

When shooting in these situations, try to avoid anything that can distract the viewer. An example of this is the wood 'props' of the stall in IMG_0861. If you see something like that, try and get higher to look down more into the scene.

A couple of the Muttrah Corniche scenes also look good as they draw you into the scene.

One thing to think about. When you first view an image, what is the first thing you see ? If it is an integral part of the image message and adds to the scene, it is a good thing. If it does not add to the scene, yet is the first thing your eye sees, it is not a good thing.

The D1000 seems to be losing a lot of highlight detail in many of your high contrast (read bright light) scenes. Maybe even try setting to - 1 EV.

Do you live near the markets ? If so, shoot a few more around there and see if the new setting helps where you have bright light coming in somehwere.
