Hi All,

I own a Nikon 995 and I am really new to the picture taking experience.

Maybe I am overlooking something, but my flash will not fire in the manual mode even when I chose anytime flash. I have the internal flash set to ON so I am not sure what else I need to do. Had the camera for a month, but I just started using the manual settings, therefore I am either missing something or there is something wrong with the camera. I tend to think it is operator error. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

I went into a dark room and tried it with the A+the flash signal (manual mode) and it didn't fire. Then I tried it with the anytime flash signal and it still didn't fire. I went into the Set Up and chacked the internal flash settings and it was set to on so what gives. In Auto mode the flash fires away all day. Please Help.

Thanks in advance.

Me Again.

I just reset all the settings to defauls and went into the same room (darkly lit). Whoa it it finally worked. I am not sure what the issue was, but I am happy I finally got the thing to work. However, I am not sure what the issue was to begin with and I am sure that I would not be able to remedy this problem if I encountered it again. If anyone knows what the hell I was doing wrong I would appreciate it. Sorry for wasting your time with such trivial issues. This is the price you pay for being new to the game. I read that manual from front to back and still can't do something simple as getting my flash to work :-).

Dely,

I'm just going from memory, but I think that the menu "Flash Off" should be set to "Off" for the flash to work. I know that this doesn't make much sense, but Nikon seem to be a little confused, Try it anyway.

Is it possible you switched to BSS or put on a lens and changed it in the menu settings? Because the flash won't work when you use them in the Manual mode. I did that once and even when I restored all the menu settings, the flash still wouldn't go off. Ultimately, I did exactly what you did... reset it. Worked fine after that.

Hi Dely,

The Internal flash menu scheme was confusing for me. See if this helps: Under "Speedlight Opt." the "Int. Flash Off" needs to be set to "Off". Apparently two off's make an on? Also, if you choose a "Wide Adapter" lens setting, the camera will set the "Int. Flash Off" back to "On" and it will not revert back when you change your lens setting back to normal. Good luck.

Thanks All,

I think Nikon needs to rewrite their manual. "Internal Off set to Off" actually means ON. That is confusing. I modified the settings to reflect that I had a teleconverter on (I guess that is what changed the Internal Flash stettings). At least now I now how to get it to work again in the future. Thanks again for all the responses.
