By no means technically perfect shots but I liked the energy coming from them. When this hiphop dancegroup is dancing they show so much energy I had to give it a try to catch it :)

Quite wonderful shots Bob - I really like these.

I would be interested in how you did the last image - it looks like a multiple exposure shot!

Thanks Hugh, the last one is with the help of the stage stroboscope. As I had a relatively long exposure (1/10th) the stroboscope fired a couple of times during that. I zoomed in at the same time so you see them in different sizes. Flash was fired to freeze the main image.

Hi Bob, look at these several times, and reading the comments, after a while I am thinking that the third is the one with the most possibilities - and most usable results here as you stretch to meet the enthusiasm, the energy, and the lighting conditions.

What occurred to me finally is that what made #3 work was mainly in the near-dominance of one of the strobed positions. Good expressions there and so forth.

So my thought was that a possibly more fruitful variation could be to use a good and powerful main flash, and collect several stage strobe cycles with one from this dominant flash. Some electronics could even fix a synchronization.

Or another way could be to shoot the high-flashed shot, and in digital darkroom merge with some multi-strobe background. More control on when you get the decisive moment; less synchronization.

Anyway. thoughts. Maybe you need a 'Purple Rain' digital camera synth, eh?? Or just listen to U2 as I am right now :). Trilogy from The Joshua Tree.

Here's an article I was just reading again; you might like it? Ah, can't read unless you make a login at http://www.mckinsey.com . That's free and free of bother but I'll email it to you anyway. Pixar Oscar-winning animated film director.

Thanks a lot Clive! Very interesting thinking. I personally don't like replicating those effects in PS. But you gave me a lot of food for thought to experiment more with this all. Lately time was a bit of an obstacle to experiment. Maybe the new year will bring some of that back :) And I loved the interview. I have been a big Pixar fan from the beginning. After spending a big part of christmas watching movies I came again to the conclusion that they are in a league of their own. Instead of making an animated movie they want to make a movie and use animation for that... There is a nice short documentary about the history of Pixar and their shorts. It gave a very nice insight in their basic thinking which was also coming out from that interview. thanks once again!

very creative idea, Bob.........with some very good results.
Looks like 1st curtain sync?
Yep 1st curtain sync and then lens zoom on the 18-200OS. The OS helps in this case a lot to get pretty straight lines. The 18-200 is a great lens for such techniques :)
