Our downtown park has these every year and adds more and more, I only shot a few but here they are...most around 5-6 ft tall. Images in reply.

Santa jet skies and Rudolf just skies?

Santa likes tractors too? Why not....!

He has better luck at fishing here than I do...

Cowboys like Christmas too...

Foot bridge leading into the park...

Thanks for looking!

I love these kinds of displays. Thanks for sharing these Rupert.

btw, were you taking these hand held? I see you were at iso 3200. If you had a tripod, you could use around 200-400 iso, unless of course it is windy and you need the faster shutter speed.

I've been talking about getting out and taking some photos of the Christmas lights before they are gone. I haven't been able to kick myself out the door though. It's been between 30 and 40 degrees at night here. Brrrrr. ;-) I know I'm a wimp, when I see all of these great snow images that are posted. Inside my house it's been 60 degrees and it just doesn't warm up because of the lath and plaster construction of our home. We haven't turned on the central heat for over 15 years. We do have a wee little space heater that we huddle around if its really cold. lol

Thanks LaRee...and you are my kind of person, a true hater of the cold. If my house got down to 60 degrees inside, I would promptly set it on fire. I Will Not be in a cold house. My wife and I constantly fight over the thermostat setting....she could sleep naked on a freezing night, and I want a blanket in August.

Yes, they were all handheld and at ISO 3200, there is a good reason, I think they call it "lazy". It truly is a sight to see, there were many, many, more of these lighted displays covering a couple of acres of our very nice downtown park. There is a little stream running through it and lots of large Oak trees, very lovely place. Over the past few years our city budget has swelled with money from gas drilling in the Barnett Shale depository and cash has been plentiful....they have spent a lot on the city, and it shows.

BTW...Next year they will have a large Squirrel lighted display.....I know people, it will happen!

Nice shots Rupert. I love Christmas lights. One of DH and my favorite Christmas traditions is to go to the Holiday Festival of Lights each year. The festival is in one of the largest parks in a neightboring county. The Festival began in 1990 with 18 displays. This year it contained 600 displalys with a cumulative total of over two million lights, most of which are spread out over a three mile long driving tour. The displays range from a simple, single Christmas Tree to tunnels made out of lights. Some of the displays are even animated. Part of displays are setup by the park and local business sponsor others.

Here are some of the shots I took of this year's excursion. Since the viewing of the lights is a "drive through" experience, these were all shot from a moving car. I put the passenger window down then climbed out onto the window frame and sat with my lower half in the car and my upper half outside. The fact that any of them turned out at all is a tribute to Pentax's SR although, even as good as the SR is, there are still a few that have a little motion blur in them.

Enjoy!

This one is for you, Rupert. Unfortunately it looks like Festus has been upstaged by Mr. Coon!

Here are some others for your enjoyment.

Rainbow Row

This is a good example of the size of some of the displays. This wreath spans a two lane road and is much, much taller than the cars going through it.

Here's another archway/tunnel.

One you've seen the lights, you can park and participate in events going on in the park. They have a marshmallow roasting bonfire, sand sculpture, a band playing Christmas music, a Christmas shop full of neat stuff, and more lights. Here's a shot of the sand sculpture.

And a couple of the displays on the pathway to the events.
