This shot was taken with a very simple set-up:
  • D700
  • Sigma 1.4/50 mm
  • tripod
Two seconds exposure @ f/1.4 and a little post-processing.

Can anyone see the Orion-Nebula below the three belt-stars?

C&C welcome!

ISO and NR settings please.

I have shot the Orion Nebula extensively with my D300 through various lenses and my scope. Still have not come close to what guys with Canons can do but still learning.

Nice shot.

Cheers,
Jeff

Try 10-13s exposure and 1600 or 3200iso, too.

It was 5.000 ISO.

When I expose 10-13 s, I think the rotation of the earth is visible, or not?

OK, I'll try it next time.

On the day I shot the photos in this posting, the sky was pretty light so a longer exposure time would have caused a strong over-exposure of the background sky.

Not at 50 mm, but that is about the limit for that focal length.

First thing I looked for! You're going to be stunned with what you can record in that frame if you had a tracking mount. With several stacked 30min exposures taken from a good dark site the whole field will be full of nebula.

Pretty good sensitivity for 2 seconds. Starting to see the coma in the extreme corners, still it's better than the 35mm/1.4 Nikkor.
