I've had it now close to a week, so I'm still "honeymoonin" :-) but I figure I can post a little about my short experience.

Cutting straight to the chase, the only real peeve I have about it isn't the cameras doing exactly - it's the IBM Microdrive. The start-up time coming out of sleep mode is interminable when there's a good photo opportunity that pops up quick and is gone as fast.

I've got the D7i on the 10 minutes power save setting in an attempt to lessen the impact of this.

----------

This heat problem people report is non-existant in mine. (for me). It doesn't get what I'd call hot, at all. (80 shots over 2 hours in mid-day heat. shrugs )

-------------

The batteries DID poop out after about 70 pics of that 80 shot outing. Brand new Powerex 1850's that had been drain - cycled 3 times first. Hope this gets better!

I probably composed and re-auto focused more than I will normally in the future, though. Also, I had the battery eating LCD in auto and I don't think I will again. I don't look at it - I've got it on EVF only now.

--------------

I'm very happy with the feel, handling and ergonomics of the camera. It fits my hands like custom gloves. I also have no build quality issues at all.

The fit, finish and overall appearance is easily at an honest $900 level. I love the silver and black - I'm one of the few, I guess, that really dis-like the ALL black "pro" look. ;-) Like I said, very happy ... exceeds my fair expectations.

-------------

I took untold hundreds of slides with my Canon AE-1 back in the late 70's. (ahhh the joy of manually focusing that bright 1.4 50mm!) This set me up to initially dislike the EVF in the 7i. But, in very short order I'm accustomed to it. Different, to be sure - but not so bad that I can't get past it.

------------

After getting my digital darkroom set up - I'm just giddy about the speed and efficiency of the whole process from shutter to print. (Beats the heck out of waiting on slides to come back!)

It's SO nice to think of a photo shoot and then be able to see prints so soon after the initial inspiration. I clicked off 30 pics this morning on a whim.

Popped the Microdrive out and then in the Zio reader. Double clicked twice -- chose from the thumbnails -- a quick re-size and crop -- saved it -- hit "print" and ...... done! Made me giggle how easy it was. The entire process took about 15 minutes including the actual shooting.

--------------

And the 8 X10 quality I've seen would fool anyone. I compared my snapshot enlargements (2560 on Fine and in default/auto) with pro wedding pics taken with medium format $$$ cameras and I swear mine look better! And that's with a garden variety Epson 880 (that cost 110 bucks) and lower priced glossy paper!

Yeah, I'm happy with it! :-P
