Isn't that boring guys/ladies?! I am comimng every now and then to our Sony forum and what I am finding here is most of the times the same; only pixels comparisons, who is better who is worst, endless comparisons of crops, enlargments, something that is not relevant and/or important, at least not to me, comes out that we are tech and not photo guys/ladies. Maybe I am wrong and we are all different but seams that photography is not what just to be. So get the cameras, go out to nature and make some pictures...and remember always, it is the human behind the camera not camera itself ;-)

Can't argue with that, but that makes this thread a bit boring. Besides that I can have more than one hobby: one is photography and the other is complaining on forums why the darn camera does not do what I want it to do.

I suspect a lot of folks are actually taking photos. But would you really want to post your photos here? For the most part if I post a photo it's chosen from ones I made with previous cameras. That keeps the pixel dissection down. I admire folks brave enough to post.

But over the history of the internet I've been in quite a few photography groups and they all seem to go this way. Nothing much positive in them. They start off well enough, but it does not stay that way long.

And it's not just photography, I'm also a nature recordist, audio recordings of wildlife, and those groups pretty much go the same way. After a while it's all just technoids. You can't even help a beginner who comes in asking for help much for fending off the technoids to try and keep what you are saying understandable.

A lot of people publishing excellent pictures on the forums here (NIKON!) mostly receive the comment:
"this is a gear only forum, go elsewhere"

Perhaps if we want the forum to be more photo orientated we should be posting in the photo threads, commenting on others work and sharing our own rather than making another non photo related thread.

What makes you think that you are entitled to dictate to others what they should post here. These kind of posts pop up with regular monotony & are unnecessary. Post what you like & be prepared to have others share your interest or not ,as the case may be, but don't scold others for having a different point of view.

PS - where are your valuable photos ?

Hi!

This place is mostly around to bash the 5D MkII. Sometimes we bash Nikons as well. And we all have a good giggle if someone says, what is it? The green one - Tampax? Anthrax? No - starts with a P or something...

Anyway, if you want to talk about photos I really reccomend dyxum.com - check out their open views forum for casual shots and their Critics Corner if you want people to really go over one or two shots.

Isn't what boring ?

Why do you assume folks don't take pictures ? I've shot over 1000 in the month of December alone and am waiting 'til after the holidays to post process them. My daughters hockey practices, holiday parties, school concert, etc. I rarely post my pictures.

And yet, you keep coming back. Not only that, but your past participation has been to ask/talk about lenses.

Well..

This is a camera gear site, with a camera gear discussion forum, so it's pretty normal and expected to have camera gear / technical discussions...

Some people do post photos (the weekly threads for example), and there are new threads with people posting photos nearly every day, and it's really enjoyable. There's no reason to bash them (and I've never seen it done in the Sony SLR forum), but it's not the place's main goal, so it's normal for it not to be the main topic. There are sites dedicated to photography in itself for that, here the focus is photography equipment.

Not to question you in particular, you were just the last one to post so I clicked reply.

But I think the original point was that this is an Sony SLR Talk forum... that includes everything with Sony SLR's, both the cameras, the lenses, and the pictures that come out of it.

I feel the same way in that I have always wanted there to be more pictures and less complaining, but every time people have made the point that it was a gear forum and if you want to share pictures, go to the picture forum.

For some reason, I like sharing and seeing other pictures done with similar equipment. I wish more people posted, and while this individual thread didn't achieve what he was asking for, anyone that knocks him for it misses the point-- it was supposed to prompt discussion of the topic, and raise awareness.

Personally, my choice has been just to leave for an extended period. Once I decide I want lenses, I come back and see what people think.

Gear:

A700, 5D, 50 f/1.7, Sigma 10-20, Tamron 28-75, Tamron 90mm Macro, Minolta 135mm 2.8, Beercan, 3600

As others have noted, this is a forum devoted to Sony DSLR specific topics. I enjoy the landscape and wildlife threads, as well as many photo threads folks use to share their images. If one were to follow the rules, most of these threads wouldn't be allowed.

Under posting rules, 4th from the top:

""My latest picture" / gallery / multiple images - Unless it's discussion of a specific technique or setup please do not post "here's my latest picture / gallery" type posts in the camera specific forums, instead please use the Samples & Galleries forum."

Which is a statement that it's the photographer and not the equipment that takes photos. And the extension of that is that the equipment does not matter. And the extension of that is there is no reason to discuss equipment at all.

Nothing like being blessed with a pleasant warm climate.

Gray with a cold icy wind here
Walt, sorry to hear it is so unpleasant where you are right now. The news says there is lots of cold winter weather all over the mainland. Here at Waikiki it is beautiful and 80F/27C today.

Here's a photo of Lanikai which is very close to where the Obama family is staying right now:
