Which, in your opinion, is the BEST FourThirds lens

If we talk about optical performance:
f:2 50 mm
2-60 mm
50-200 mm
EC14, EC20 the same
Mechanical performance (speed):
12-60
50-200
50

Yes, for performance only the 150mm F2 is the best. However there are a few outstanding ones as well.

The 50-200 SWD is the best allround Lens (and my fav - its most of the time part of my E3)

The 12-60 is the best Standard Zoom Lens of all available and together with the 50-200 its just the perfect walkabout kit.

The 35-100 F2, because its a superb lens and perfectly usable for Lifestyle, Fashion and Event Photography.
The 7-14 is still a unique lens, esp when you are looking for "Crop" System.

I can only comment on the ones that I own but the 50-200 when you get it right, which is most of the time, is fantastic.
I find I drive it most of the time in C-AF and for my needs it is bonza!

It really works great for subject isolation, overcoming almost all of the "complaints" about the 4/3 DOF.

But if I had sunny skies like South Florida, it would be 14-54 f/8 and be there!

Love f2 Oly lens wide open ... 14-35mm f2, & a 50mm f2+1.4TC is my fav. combo on two 'IS' oly bodys.

I can't really answer that, because it depends on what I want to shoot.

My best if I want high detail and / or narrow DOF is the the 50/2 macro. That lens is really something. For portraits I like the 14-54 more because it is somewhat softer then the 50/2 and is a whole lot faster when it cones to focusing. However, right now my fav is the 50-200 SWD which I just received about a week ago. As you see, I listed almost all my digital lenses, I am not a real lens collector, the ones I have I also like them a lot.

Yes, I LOVE this lens.

For me it's right in the FL and f2 - f2.8 that I shoot in most ... and does it very, very well.

Even though I bash it for it's Low Light AF. (makes it all the more frustrating)

There is some things I don't like about my wife too. :) But ....

Truly a tough and fun question posed by the OP.

Among the lenses I own and use the 11-22 probably has the ultimately best IQ all things considered. But the PL 14-50 gives superior rendering even to the 1-22, but in a more subtle way. It doesn't have the same wow-factor but is extremely pleasing.

But in many ways the ever so much under estimated 35mm macro is the best. No other 4/3 lens gives you 1:1 magnification. Used wit h care it gives extremely sharp and pleasing results. It's small, light and a delight to carry and use. And the best thing is that they practically give it away for free..! :)

Just my 2 pennies' worth.

This lens has just about exceeded all my expectations. It's easily as sharp as the 14-42 and has remarkably little distortion at 9mm. Come to think of it, the lens is good all the way from 9mm to 18mm. I think I've mentioned I think is something special about the colours this lens produces.

Yes, another vote for the 12-60. It might not be the pixel-peeping-sharpest of all, but it's on my E-3 most of the time. Excellent range and excellent IQ / sturdy / weatherproof and fast. I use it a lot more than the 50-200SWD or the 50mmF2, so for this reason it has to be my number one.

Of why most people come to the dpreview OSTF - not to disrespect or wind up other visitors, but to share knowledge.

Bill, I only relatively recently bought my 11-22mm f2.8, but have hugely enjoyed the results on the few occasions I've used it - I really like the fact that you can get such sharp focus in a wide angle lens wide open...

THANK YOU Bill, Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year!

Kind Regards

Sorry for posting twice.

I hate to post anything I shoot because I'm probably the worst photographer that reads this forum. But I'm still surprised not to see any mention of the 8mm Fisheye. Sometimes I use it for a complete day. If you care to look follow this link to pictures of just one site. I still think it's a fun lens.

Some glass I do have: 9/18, 50/200 swd, Sigma 50/500 etc.

I agree that it's an awsome lens and am very pleased to own one. And yes, it does rank up there with the best. I do use mine quite a lot.

Thank you and Merry Christmas to you and yours.

I'm, frankly, not surprised at the wide range of lenses folks consider their "best." The fact is, they're all excellent lenses from the least expensive to the most expensive.
