I am new to photography and just recently bought a Nikon D90. I love taking pictures and would like some opinions on some of my photos and any suggestions on ways to make them better.

Thanks for the advice. I'll try but shes only 9 months old lol.

I agree the girl is a very pretty subject even though it took some convincing for her to let me take pictures.

I'm no expert but here's my two cents, exposures are quite good, focus is good:
  1. 1: Harsh lighting, consider fill flash
  2. 2: Image is too large to see without scrolling and its hard to comment as such, but I think this looks pretty good, rather bleak but nice shot.
  3. 3: FJ in yellow seems like it might be impressive close up or climbing an incline or something
  4. 4: Ok shot, but background is a bit busy, and the highlight on the nose could be softened up
  5. 5 Dog shot would be better in close, low angle or with a more appealing background
  6. 6 Joshua tree portrait pretty good, generally compositions seem to be prefered with the subject off centered, but crop the way you like. I'd be tempted to clip off about 1/4 of the left side

I'd go for less symmetry in framing. For example, I like the way the truck is positioned. With all of that space ahead of it, it feels like it's about to start kicking up a cloud of dust. However, I might crop the shot a bit so that the horizon doesn't bisect the shot.

Personally that last picture bothers me. I don't like to obscure the eyes or have sharp looking shapes near the eyes. Over all I appreciate the handling of negative space, tonal range and tone tints.

Keep working on it and you will become very adept in dealing with the beautiful. They have problems and fears of their own. There are some nice ones out there and there are a lot of flakes. Extreme beauty is not all it is cracked up to be.

Check out this old gallery of people I confronted on the streets of San Francisco year ago. There are two people galleries here.

I'm surprised I'm the only one to notice (maybe it's too early), but unless you're doing some selective softening in PP, you might want to double-check your D90 for front focusing.

In this shot, the model is very soft, except for the branch on the top-right corner. If you softened this in PP, I'd say it's overdone.

Not sure what to make of this one. Since the grass in front and behind the dog's head is sharp, maybe motion blur?

And in this shot, the tree in front of the model is sharper than the model. Front focusing? This one is a very nice composition, btw.

Test everything; hold on to the good.
