Just received my D60 last week. Shot about 75 images (jpg high) using a Lexar 256mb card that I formatted on the camera.

After shooting one pic, I got an err 02 and could not recover my images. Camera works fine with my other CF card (same type). When I try to read the first card in my card reader, it gives me an error like it is not formatted.

Ugh!

Anyone else experience similar? I searched on the forum, but could not really find anything. I'm trying the "DIR" software recommended on this forum, but so far it's just reporting read errors.

Much appreciated ...

Hi,

I get this occasionally and I have tried to nail it down to one or two specific cards. No luck yet. The workaround for me as it always happens on the first shot of a card (if it going to happen) I always take a shot of anything before something crucial. If it errors I turn off and on again and the problem goes away.

I have spoken to Canon UK and they suggest that it is a card problem. I am not so sure.....

Regards,

Richard

Thanks Richard.

It's so frustrating because it did not occur until about 75 shots, and then, it would not recover at all!

And on my first time out, too !!

Cheers.

I've had this with 2 256Mb PNY cards that were given to me by the shop where I bought my D60. Each time I got an Error 02 before taking my first shot. I now have a 1GB Microdrive, a 320Mb Lexar and a 256 Crucial.

So far so good.......

Hello,

Error 02 occures here only when a CF card isn't inserted perfectly ...
So, always the first shot.
Once the CF card is inserted again, no problems anymore ...

Kind regards,

This is not my experience.

When I got an Error 02 the camera could and would not read the card no matter how many times I removed and inserted the card.

That's what happened to me, too.

Has anyone else experienced problems with 256mg CF cards in the D60?

Thanks.

Lexar 256 and Canon D30 - over 100 images. Turned off camera, removed card, used a new card. That night, just for grins and in the hope of recovering 1/2 days work, reinserted the 256 card and everything was OK!!?? Go figure.

Get the same very annoying experience .

None of my Hama 128Mb cards is troublefree as I got that 02 error with each of them .
The error occurs as well at the first shot as at the 12th .
I lost half the pix ( 6 out of 12 ) of a panorama . I didn't notice before
downloading them via my card reader . Those files were not recorded .

One Hama was developping so much that problem , I sold it to a friend who tried it for a while on his E10 with which it worked flawlessly .

Jaja knows how ' difficult ' his E10 was in accepting CF cards . Is the D60 even more difficult ?

It's really annoying as some shots cannot be done again when this error occurs . This is disapointing , at least .

Best regards ,

Danny

Has anyone else experienced problems with 256mg CF cards in the D60?
It's my impression that this "ERR 02" problem is not limited to one size or one make of CF cards. I had a similar experience with a Mr Flash 512 that worked in everyone else's camera but mine (none of them Canons.) Worked for a while in mine, and then got irreversibly stuck with ERR 02. I even bought special softeware to do a complete reformat, but to no avail. I searched here and found that several D60 owners were having some problems with Mr Flash cards. But I have a Mr Flash 256 that works fine, and since have read that many other brands have produced an ERR 02 message. All that I have been able to surmise from this is that the D60 is very sensitive and a bit unpredictable with CF cards - not what you want to hear I'm sure. On the bright side, I sold that card and bought a Ritek 512 that has given me no problems so far . . . knock on wood!

You're talking just about your own experience right? Unfortunately my experience was different. My Mr Flash card took 70 photos before it conked out. The card never worked in my D60 after that, even though it worked fine in my E10. I'm sure you're right in many instances, but apparently for many it's not that simple or easy to fix. I know mine wasn't.

Of course Canon recommends using only Canon CF cards . . . I suspect that as long as their interests are proprietary, this problem may not get addressed.

I had the same problem with a 128 meg DaneElec card. Simply returned it and upgraded to a 256 meg card.

It's difficult to reproduce the error because I think it's caused by a bad contact in one or more pins. That's why the error usually shows up in a specific card but quite erratically at first sight.

The only solution is to return the card. In my case, the error was very frustrating because it occurred all the time while on holiday.

Frank
