G2 Macro of fly

This is my first attempt at posting a photo here so I hope it
works. The shot was taken with a +4 diopter and 50mm lens attached
in reverse.Nothing has been done except resized for the web. Here
goes...

pbase won't let you directly link unless you pay.

try dusting the fly, or shoot a real one like this shot http://www.photosig.com/viewphoto.php?id=147600 (A fly and his pet) i think you should be able to see that after clicking.

Hey,

Can someone define reverse macro for me?

Regards,
Brent

but i think +4 diopter doesen´t change anythink.

keep on shooting, ...

On old SLR trick for macros is to reattach the lense backwards using a reversing ring(I never tried it myself though). I made a adaptor by gluing two Cokin adaptors together-this screws onto the DC58 and the lense screws onto that.I had the g2 hooked up to the computer using G2Remote from http://www.breezesys.com/ . I just sat there with the camera set to macro clicking with the mouse until I was resonably happy with the shot.Normally you have to crop out the vignetting caused by the reversed lense but this time i didn't have two-maybe the +4 dioptre helped here). The distance from camera to subject is so small I struggled to get light onto it.Shots I have seen from the G1 and reversed lense appear to get a reasonable working distance. It is winter here so didn't have any decent subjects so an old dead fly I found had to do.I hopes this sheds some light on the this process.

Wow!! Fantastic!!

I have had my G2 for a couple of weeks and am playing around with lenses, adapters, reversing rings etc.

Off to Taupo, weekend after next, and expect to take hundreds of photos.

My 2 x 128 CF cards arrived from Australia this morning :-)

a reverse macro is when you get a standard 50mm slr lens, get a reversing ring, and attach the front of the lens, to the lens of you camera. you get very close close ups with that method.

I have that shot in a folder of inspirational shots on my desktop. It is a great example of the results that can be achieved reversing a lense. I don't think the G2 will get that depth of field unfortunately, but that was my first trial .
Pretty good photo, but check this out:

Anyway, I/m happy to find out that G2 is capable of somehow similar
performances.

Cheers

Oops.Sorry wrong link. Here's the one I should have shown.

This link should be helpful to anyone interested in how to do
this.It also shows the lense setup.I wish I had found it earlier.

KK,

Last night I tried using the reversing ring, the 3+ close-up lens and the reversed 50mm SLR lens, but could not achieve results anywhere near as good as yours.

Obviously, I am doing something wrong :-(

Are you using digital zoom?
