IS there any way I can test the optical zoom on my uzi2100? I've had the camera (first ever digital) for about 2 months, and it seems recently that I'm not getting the same zoom range as i was in the beginning.
Any comments would be appreciated.

Thanks

Have you turned off the digital zoom recently, giving you the impression that the zoom is less. Take a shot of a distant object in wide zoom, then zoom in fully (Optically) take another shot, then zoom in fuly digitally and take another shot. Print out the three pictures and measure the size of the object in the three photos. That should give you the zoom range of the optical and digital zoom.

Hi together,

I have the same problem with my C-700, when I take a look at the pictures with the planes on the photos, shown at: http://www.dcresource.com/reviews/olympus/c700-review/index.html ,
I have the impression, that my Zoom is not so powerfull, but I will test the
thing, Jim wrote.

Just one question to Jim, you mean, I have to take a ruler and measure the size of the object? But how can I get the zoom range, when I have this 3 different measures? 1cm=38mm (no zoom) 5 cm (6x zoom)
Sorry, that I ask, but I´m a little insecure.

Thanks

I think an easier and more definitive way would be to check your metadata info. If you have saved some pics that you felt had more zoom, compare the focal length of those to a new one taken at full zoom (just right click on your pic, select properties and then metadata, at least that's what ACDsee refers to it as), and scroll down to "focal length".

Here are my data of acdsee:
no zoom: focal length = 5,9
10X zoom: focal length = 58,0
digital zoom: focal length = 156,6

but I thing, the camera give the data, if the zoom is correct or not!
Am I right or wrong?

I do not know. But if it's correct at no zoom, I would trust it to be correct at full zoom.

AT DZ I get 189mm

At Full zoom I get 70mm

No zoom 7mm

Here are my data of acdsee:
no zoom: focal length = 5,9
10X zoom: focal length = 58,0
digital zoom: focal length = 156,6
As you can see your values ARE off when compared to mine

AT DZ I get 189mm

At Full zoom I get 70mm

No zoom 7mm

Did you turn DZ off when testing full zoom? Are you absolutely sure those pics were taken at the max zoom?

5.9-58 is for the C700
7-70 is the C2100

they use different size sensors therefor the focal lengths are different

Yes I take a picture of a window on a house with full wide angle with my c2100 and the window measures 11.5mm on paper or 1x zoom, at full zoom the window measures 115mm or 1x zoom (115/11.5=10). The exif data reports Focal length of 7mm at full wide and 70mm at full zoom.

With the A200 installed the window measures 171mm or 14.9x zoom (171/11.5=14.9)

I´m a littlebit confused abut this all,
can somebody tell me know, if my c700 has an correct zoom??

Please!
no zoom: focal length = 5,9
10X zoom: focal length = 58,0
is correct for the c700
THX Golko!
just look at this pics, I´ve uploaded into my new account:

The bike looks good, though i prefer/have a Yamaha FJ1200v ;-)

First picture = ok
Model : C700UZ
ExposureTime : 1/1000Sec
FNumber : F3,2
ISOSpeedRatings : 100
FocalLength : 5,90(mm)
Digital Tele : X 1,00

Second: Here you tested the digital zoom and not the optical zoom:
Model : C700UZ
ExposureTime : 1/800Sec
FNumber : F4,0
ISOSpeedRatings : 100
FocalLength : 70,10(mm)
the optical zoom ends at 58 mm
Digital Tele : X 1,21
for just the optical zoom should be Digital Tele : X 1,00

Have a look at http://www.pbase.com/golko/zoom
5,90 mm = 38 mm
58,0 mm = 380 mm

Yes the zoom is correct .. you took the pictures with a C700 NOT a C2100
