Any DMC-L1 users still out there ???? Just bought one !!!

I've had my L1 since August 1, this year. I had the 14-50 (the good
one) for a short period of time but it did not suit my photographic
needs so I sold it.
Actually, both the 14-50/2.8-3.5 and the 14-50/3.8-5.6 are very good lenses. The L1's original lens is simply the faster one, as well as larger, heavier and more expensive. However, the slower model (from the Panasonic L10) is capable of doing CDAF in Live View, and with the G1 camera too.

The Amazon.com price at $624 or so for the L1 kit is a heck of a bargain (and annoying as it makes my perfectly new in the box L1 kit less valuable .. ;-). Their photos of the camera show the original L1 lens included with the kit.

Actually the :) face was because I am going through a similar multi-system evaluation.

1. I got the e420-pancake combination. Then returned it since I wanted the kit lens and stand-alone the kit lens was too pricey. Returned it and ordered the e420-with kit and the pancake stand-alone. Love the kit-lens so far. Pancake is on its way.

2. Then ordered a Nikon D700. Too heavy but excellent camera otherwise. Didn't think I would end up using it and returned it.

3. Then ordered a Panasonic LX3. Loved it for everything except skin-tones and limiting tele-photo. Returned it since I could not stand the skin-tones.

4. After seeing the great deal on the L1, I have ordered it as well. Would love to use the Elmarit with IS on my e420. The L1 camera itself, not sure since I am not too comfortable with processing in RAW and Panasonic OOC JPEGs have messed up colors based on my experience with LX3 recently and the FZ-8 earlier.

I think you will find the L1 colours better than the LX3.

If you are buing from Good As New Electronics under Amazon.com like I do and a few others on this forum, you are getting the L1 plus 28-100 f2.8/f3.5 (the good one). I paid USD 750 last month! Arhhhhhhh

I presume you mean the Panasonic/Leica Vario-Elmarit-D 14-50mm f/2.8-3.5 ASPH OIS as there is no such thing as a "28-100/2.8-3.5" in the current lens line.

Yes, sorry for the confusion.

I am a sunday photographer but also a love of nice objects and the L1 made me very happy on both sides.

Seen it when it sold for about 2.000 and got one a month ago, brand new, for 490...

I am very satisfied with it, not to be used for sport action neither in poor light conditions but for all the rest it's superb and the lens itself is a masterpiece.

My flick gallery is 90% made out of L1 pics (but quickly growing with S5Pro ones ;-) )

Now I am gonna go at my son's school for xmas celebrations and bringing the L1 with me.

.. in these times of many 'modern' cameras.

But I decided this year as well to buy a second one due to continuously good experience with my 'old' one (bought last year).

It took me some time to get to know the cam, but now I love it (them). And finally I purchased all three Pana/ Leica lenses.

Nevertheless there is room for improvement, especially comparing L1 shots to shots taken with D-Lux 4 (LX3) and the capabilities of the Venus IV engine. But it depends, if you have time to shoot the L1 will cover most needs.

Good luck

I paid $700 for mine & I won't get it right up till January!

But in truth, I don't feel overcharged or anything, nor do I miss particularly the chance to have saved that extra $75 quid.

I'm installing the KatzEye Focusing Screen (which ought to help
greatly with manual focusing) alongside the OptiBrite treatment
(which ought to help with the viewfinder brightness) on my "yet to
arrive" L1. I can't say exactly how helpful these would be, but from
all I've heard it makes an amazing combo!
Are you going to install the KatzEye yourself, or do you have a repair shop you trust who can do it for you?

KatzEye offers the service and I would recommend letting them do it
unless you are pretty handy with working on cameras.

The focusing screen is going to be my birthday gift by my sister whose husband is a far better & more experienced than me at all things cameras & if he thinks he can manage, I trust him. If he decides that it's better for it to be done by the good folks at KatzEye, so be it...

I had a look at the service manual for the L1 and my example that I downloaded some time ago seems to not be a complete service manual. It is a paltry 29 pages and doesn't show removal of the focusing screen.

Does anyone have a good link for the full L1 service manual (not owners manual). I like to have them for all of my cameras.

I just bought one this week. Haven't used it much yet. Heading out to do some street photography this Sunday. That is what I bought it for. My main gun is a Canon 1DS with a full range of L series glass.

Just got mine last night. Been playing wth it today. I am going to use it as my main fun and shoot arond camera. Save my E3 fr serious work.

Thanks,

Jared

Well just used my new L1 last Sunday during a raging snow storm. It performed great. Expected to loose the batteries early on in the day, but nop still full power. My Canon 1DS would have gone through 2-3 batteries. Very liberating to shoot with a light camera with only one lens.

Cheers
