got it this morning, its an xmas present actually so i thought i would try it before i give it to my mother to wrap up, aligned the red dot with the body like you would mounting a lens but it just will not mount? does it need to be attached to alens first before you mount it? I bought it off an ebay seller called forever_colourful anyone else used this. alternatively can anyone reccomend an ebay seller etc where I can buy one that will work i am in the UK. am now tempted to get the olympus one but it is so expensive and everyone else seems to use these chinese adaptors with no problems. any advice gratefully appreciated....paul

Hi Jim,

Is it actually the right spec ? Can you compare it to an existing 4/3 lens ? Or have you got an OM lens to mount it on ?

I'd check those three points first, then draw a conclusion.

My guess is it's the wrong adapter (ie not an OM to 4/3)...

Can you post a picture of it ?

Cheers,

Marc

strange -

haven't heard this before

when you say it fails to mount do you mean it will not go on or that it won't lock on?

I would suggest taking/posting some measurements ......

Mounting it on a lens first won't make any difference

I also bought one off ebay, still waiting for it to arrive here. Decided not to go with the cheapest one (€16.50, stainless steel) but bought a brass, chromium plated one for € 30:

http://cgi.ebay.de/Adapter-OLYMPUS-OM-an-Four-Thirds-4-3-fuer-E-400-etc_W0QQitemZ110326506423QQihZ001QQcategoryZ79943QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1713.m153.l1262

Wondering if I´ll have to experience the same problems you describe, hope not.

On the ebay page it says you have to mount the adapter to the lens first, but I can´t really see why that should make any difference.

And they also mention a stop-screw, maybe yours got that, too, and that is what causes your problems; maybe it has to be loosened first and tightened only once after mounting, don´t know.

The original Oly adapter is very nice, had borrowed one from my brother for a couple days, but with the one I ordered I hope I can avoid paying €99 for the Oly one.
Hopefully tomorrow or the day after I can tell you if this adapter works.

In case it is not pefectly tight like the Oly one I might only use it for the 50mm lens and get the Oly one for the heavy 300/4 lens, will see.

I have bought two from the eBay shop run by Shamino123 and have been happy with both of them. Unfortunately, as far as I can see he has none in stock at present but mine cost about 13 GBP.

Probably not helpful but his adaptors have two red spots. It took me a while to work it out but in this case you align the red spot on the silver face of the adaptor with the red focussing mark on the OM lens and then the red spot on the black face of the adaptor with the red spot on the E-1.

For what it's worth I always attach the adaptor to the lens first but I can't imagine it matters.

Although Shamino has not got what you are looking for I did notice a lot of different AF-confirm adaptors for Canon EOS. Off-topic but does anyone know if such available for OM-4/3 - and do they work?

my problem is solved, there are two red dots on the adaptor i was using the one that is visible like when you mount a lens but the one underneath is in a different position, once i lined up the underneath one the adaptor went on a treat, now just got to wait 10 days to try my lens, brilliant. seems like a silly mistake but when you can see a red dot on the top you automatically go to allign it with that one. Im quite pleased now.notice there is slight play in the mount only about 1mm though guess its to be expected though compared to the price of my 14-54. cant wait to try my 50mm 1.8 xmas present. thanks guys for all yourhelp best wishes, merry xmas ....paul

Well, that's not really true. I have the Olympus original MF-1 and there is a substantial quality difference between the cheap Chinese ones and the MF-1. For example I would never use a cheap one on a large tele lens. I have several Chinese ones as well, and my experience is that they work well, but I have had a few which could not be used. This is a risk you take for the small sum they cost. If the MF-1 would be of that quality it would not be acceptable, so if you are after the highest quality you must get the MF-1. If you need many adapters the Chimese ones are economically a better solution, but if you only need one, I'd say go for the real one.

The first adaptor I bought from bennohs was not machined correctly on the OM side, so the lens wouldn't go in fully and consequently the aperture wouldn't close completely. It was also not thick enough, so that the focus was behind the distance shown on the metering scale. I returned it.

The second adaptor I bought from cirrusadapter. Apart from a slight back focus (relative to the metering scale) it is perfect in every way. I recommend it.
