Qimage, Canon S9000 and Kodak Premium paper

I had the same problem at first. I downloaded Joes profiles and wasn't happy with the results. Skin tones were a bit yellow and the picture was washed out not dark.

I calibrated my monitor using Adobe Gamma Loader and created a profile named sRGB 1EC61966-2.1. In Qmiage I clicked on settings and color management. I then clicked on monitor output and browsed until I found that profile. I loaded that profile and din not load any printer output profile. I went to set up the printer on the main tab and clicked on color adjustment. I set the intensity lever to 9 and enabled the ICM. The print quality was set to custom and quality set to 1. These were the only changes to the set up I made.

I printed using Canon PPP, OD premium high gloss, and Kodak Satin and Glossy premium picture paper with great results. I also left paper setting type to Canon PPP for all pictures.

This is really simple and easy using the same settings for all the papers.

Hope this helps,

Neil
so i followed all the instructions, and downloaded the appropriate
ICC file and installed according to instruction, but the prints are
turning out to be darker and have quite a bit of an orange tint.

any suggestions?

All you've told us is that you downloaded the profile, did everything right, and got poor results. You have provided no specifics on which to base any suggestions.

You have to have some ideas -- did you follow the text file exactly? Did you double check the settings in the driver to make sure you didn't "double profile?" What program are you using to print? What operating system?

You have to give the forum something to work on.

Thanks, Joe, for the pointers:

I'm using Qimage to print off of my Canon S9000. And I have downloaded and installed your ICC profiles plus ver. 1.52 driver for the Kodak Premium Glossy paper from Costco. All this is done w/ WinXP Pro.

I have followed your instructions in installing the ICC profiles, and instructed Qimage to use the .icm file. Then I instructed Qimage to use the paper type as the High Gloss Photo Film. Then the prints turn out darker and more orange than when I printed (with the same instructions) w/ the Epson Premium Glossy paper and .icm file, w/ the paper type of Photo Paper Plus Glossy.

The only settings that I'm unsure of the is under the Printer Setup -> Properties -> Main tab, the Print Quality and the Color Adjustment settings, so I have just left 'em alone.

Is that enough info? Am I clear enough in what I did? Let me know what else you need for your assistance / suggestion. Much appreciation in advance!

(Boy, this is one FAST printer!)

and I just noticed that the Enable ICM box was checked; once I unchecked it, the colors turned out pretty good! But I do noticed that the Kodak prints are lighter in color and has a slight greenish tint comparing to the Espon prints w/ the Premium Glossy paper.

Any suggestions? Both prints are fine. I think the Epson is warmer in color for sure.

and why is that the Enable ICM box is supposed to be unchecked? Does that mean that I'm supposed enable the ICM, set the right .icm file, then disable it? Thanks again for fielding all my questions :)

Any particular reason(s)? My prints look fine - but the Epson Premium Glossy definitely looks better :)

I'm not in front of my XP machine right now, but isn't this where the "print type" setting is? If so, you need to set it to either "photo" or "none" depending on the profile you're using. If you look at the text file that comes with the profile, it says which profile should use which setting. You have to select "manual" for Color Adjustment, then click on "set..." and change the print type and make sure Enable ICM is unchecked.

Funny how things work better when you follow the directions. Haha, add me to the list of guilty. Kodak paper is good but there is some ink pooling and it doesn't pass the "water" test. Not that the "water" test is a big deal to me. I've noticed the same pooling on the Office Depot paper though and have NOT noticed it on the Epson Photo Paper. I have yet to try to the Premium line of Epson papers though. I think the Kodak and the OD papers are still good for everday stuff.

Well your subject line defines your trouble is with Kodak paper. I have read numerous other posts saying Kodak paper does not yield good results. So with all the other GOOD choices, like Canon PPP, Epson Premium and Office Depot Premium, I was wondering why it's worth all the trouble to get the Kodak to work.

that's the only reason why i'd like to get it working :)

you figure, even when it's onsale, i can only get the Epson Premium Glossy for about $12 for 20, but at Costco, the Kodak paper is 100 for $25 (sometimes w/ a $5 rebate!). so if you do the math.... on the other hand, i have yet to try the Epson Glossy Photo paper from Costco (100 for $20), so that might be an alternative.

but you're right, so far, the Epson Premium Glossy paper looks the best, but I have yet to try the Canon PPP. sigh...

I am trying to use the Kodak Premium SATIN paper. I like the non-glossy look. However, I am having a hell of time getting decent color out of my prints from either Qimage or from Adobe Elements on my Canon S800. I tried Joes S9 profile for Kodal Premium Glossy but the pictures have a lot of red/orange tint in them.

Per the directions, I set the paper type to high-gloss photo film, NO ICM and the print type to NONE. I set the ICM setting in QIMAGE to the S9 ICC profile in both QIMAGE and in the print driver.

Does anyone have a profile for the kodak premium satin paper? Or a profile for the other paper I like using - the HP premium plus photo paper - Matte.

On a side note - when I use the Kodak Picture software with the Kodak One Touch setting the colors are just great! What settings does their software set the printer to? Or what profile are they using?

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Not to mention the fact that the ink washes off the kodak paer because it just sits on top of it. Go with the office depot for cheap excellent paper

I agree. Currently, I use the Epson paper to give pictures away and the PPP for my albums. The last time I bought the PPP it was hard to find and I bought a lot of of it.
